Check them out on my Flickr link and let me know what you think. Yes I know the hood doesn't fit exactly right and that is a project for a upcoming day, but it was nice to get it out on the road and drive it. | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 4,983 Master Gabster | Master Gabster Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 4,983 | John, She looks as good as a high school cheerleader when I was 16. You know, the outside of a truck can be deceiving. It can look spotless, and immaculate with clean lines. When judging the quality of the work done on a bolt I want to look first at the engine compartment and then the interior and last the outside. Many a vehicle has had a coat of paint to cover the mess. Yours however looks like a winner. Congrads now fix that hood. lol

Seems like I get two or three a week. Again I must remind you guys, this thread is for what you did on your old truck. Please keep it on topic.
Thanks
By the way, I got the original style upholstery material for my burb and took the seats to the upholsterer's yesterday. | | | | Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 1,576 back yard wrench turner | back yard wrench turner Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 1,576 | Removed the fenders, cowl in prep to remove the motor and trans. The dash got pretty well hacked up when it got installed, but I'd rather look at weird gaping holes than that radio. LOL
I find I rather like the "demolition" mode. A little bling installed keeps me going.

I think neither of us won the cheeseburger for going to the show in Austin in May?
Mine's on the road as a daily driver but still lots of interior work until it's presentable up close. And yes, I'll have pics soon.
Oh, got the speedo calibrated today.

Thanks man! Just trying to do this job as efficiently as possible - my inlaws must have 15 old bikes in a barn, so I grabbed one - and the wood is hydro pole cut up! I'll admit, it's still fairly heavy, but lets me move the old 216 around until I'm sure I want to get rid of it. | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 138 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 138 | Test drove it after fighting shift linkage for a while. Now it goes into second gear without the clutch pushing it back into neutral! Alignment is next.

Bought a pertronix set, a new rocker shaft set and gas pedal linkage for the 261. Hopefully that'll wrap up the power plant part of this project. (I haven't tried to crank the 261 yet but I'm getting closer) I also bought an assembly manual as I'm now shifting my project direction toward the body of the truck. Another recent purchase, a Danbury Mint '58 Stepside is sitting on my desk at work for inspiration!

The guy had bought them without fully thinking things through, result....they rubbed his fenders. 20 Miles from new and minimal marking from the rubbing for less than half price! I'm happy....

Since I've always had traction problems, I decided to fab up some old school traction bars. I used a 4" x 6" angle cut to size for the mounting plate & about 30" of 2" x 2" heavy wall tubing for the bar. After getting them welded up & installed it was time for a test ride. The truck now hooks up increadibly well !! Like a major smoke show at will !! Tomorrow they will come off & be sent out for power coating.
