I have a door handle with lock for a 36 truck and I'm looking for someone that can make a key. I don't think that a locksmith would have the correct blank?

I'd give an Ace or Truevalue a try. I bet theres a blank that would work. It probably wouldn't say Chevy on it, but it would be worth the try for $1.50. Try to take it somewhere that uses an old manual machine to cut it though

if you don't have a key to copy, you'll need a good locksmith, any locksmith will have blanks that will work, most should have OEM shaped blanks - the originals might have said GM, but not Chevrolet, most said Briggs and Stratton or BASCO, who started making auto lock cylinders and keys for the industry in the 20's

The ones Bill describes pop up on eBay fairly regularly so you can get them there and have them cut by the locksmith to your tumblers.

Tell the locksmith that you need a B10 and B11 blank. I forget which is which but one is the hex end and the other round. The hex is the ignition/door, the round the glove box (and trunk on a car). If he doesn't have, or can't get, B10 & B11 there are modern equivalents.

B10 is the hex head and B11 is the round head. They were used in all GM cars from 1935-1966.

A lot of the parts vendors have New Old Stock blanks that they sell... so, poke around on those and see what you can find.

Then you can take the blank to the local locksmith to have it keyed properly.

My locksmith here in Blairsville,GA made a key for my 37 door lock. This town is so far off the beaten path that they have to pump in daylight. Go figure

I've seen vintage locksmiths at the automotive flea markets. I have original keys for my 1967 Beaumont with the knockouts still in them. (The octagon key says Briggs and Stratton and the round key says Rochester Products Division)

a farily old reputable locksmith should have what you need. Just last year I needed 3 cut for some old locks and an old gentlemen "fixed me up"... for $7.50 per lock.

The key blank itself is common. I recently bought a bunch of them. If you find someone with the code book for 1935-66 I'm sure he'll have the blanks.
