For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 5 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 5 | I have wanted an old Chevy since I fell in love with one at the age of 13 or 14. I convinced my dad that a 55 Chevy is what I wanted. At which point he said OK but you will never be able to take a girl out without AC. He changed my mind.
A decade or two later now I still love the old Chevy's. I now have to convince my wife to get one. I am currently looking. I found one but have some questions I hope you guys can help me out with.
The seller does not have a title. The truck was signed over to him as collateral on a failed debt. Do any of you see an issue with this? The truck does have a title but the seller does not have it in his possession.
How much would a 47-53 3100 truck with decent body, no motor or tranny be worth in the midwest? It is a 3 window with all the glass, but will need to be replaced as it is obviously old an bubbled.
I would appreciate any help you can give.
Thanks

Scroll down to the Vehicle Registration and there is an FAQ. You may find an answer there. If not, call the County Treasurer's office and they will be able to tell you how to proceed. I just bought a truck with some title issues and was able to get them resolved without too much problem. Finally, when you do register it, make sure you tell them it's an antique. It will cost you a little more up front but your annual renewal should be less than $20. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 2,422 Former Workshop Owner | | Former Workshop Owner Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 2,422 | Prices will vary mainly on the condition.
If he has the right to sell the truck (meaning he actually owns it), he should be able to obtain a title for it. If anything, at least a duplicate.
I wouldn't buy the truck without a title (unless you only want it for the parts). There are lot's of trucks for sale with titles.
Good luck
John

If it was ever signed over then there is hope. Do you know the present owner/holder of the truck well enough for him to allow you to "get it titled in your name" before payment?
John makes a couple of valid points! | | | | | Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 5 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 5 | The guy selling the truck has several rental properties. One of his tenants was behind in rent and put up his project as collateral. He failed to pay the back rent and apparently signed over the truck to the landlord. I have yet to see the paperwork myself.
I do not know the present owner/holder very well. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 695 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 695 | Welcome, Chahn1980! You've come to the right place to get some help! Just a thought... sounds like your wifey's "go-ahead" is an open door to achieving this dream. Congratulations! I was also fortunate that my sweet wife encouraged me to fulfill mine. Concerning your find, if the seller can't help you obtain sufficient information to obtain a title I agree with John, you might look elsewhere... This is an opportunity to find your truck. Good luck, buddy! We look forward to hearing good news from you.

The owner of the truck SHOULD be willing to help you with this process if he wants to sell the truck. Good luck! | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,733 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,733 | IMO if the seller doesn't have a title then he doesn't own it and cannot legitimately sell it. I'd pass on it. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 688 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 688 | ..... he said OK but you will never be able to take a girl out without AC.
