For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 6 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 6 | Well first let me say hello, been lurking around the forums for quite a while, just registered and thought that I should introduce myself! Been an old Chevy guy for quite a while, FIrst truck is a '56 1/2t big window that's been with me for close to 20 years now. Came from factory with a 265 and a 3w/overdrive. Pulled all that out and put a 350...4spd 4spd 4spd..........finally stuck a t400 in it and thats what it sits with now. So my newest toy is a 51, 1.5t as far as I can tell. Looks to have been made in the Baltimore plant. From what I can tell is all stock. The truck was found in Congress AZ, desert town about an hour north of Phoenix. I yanked him up onto a flat bed and towed it home last week. and have been pulling factory and after market wiring out of it trying to get down to something I can work with. It has a 235 from what I can tell, I've not been able to get under the hood to scratch off numbers on the motor yet (rain...yes in AZ rain) I'll get to that ASAP. The tires hold air, it was easy as hell to get home. I work next door to Bitchin Products (make all sorts of old sheetmetal parts) This should be lots of fun!!! Just getting ready to order an EZwiring harness and a set of gauges and try and fire up the motor. We'll see where things go and now....lets see if we can toss up a picture or two... http://www.h-townmadness.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=43&pictureid=392http://www.h-townmadness.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=43&pictureid=390http://www.h-townmadness.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=43&pictureid=391

While it does have a PTO on it, and has had some welding/modifications done to the chassis in the rearI don't think it was a wrecker. The bumper (top) is welded to the bottom one, but there is zero support for it on the backside, I believe that the truck was used at one of the mine sites in that area. I've not actually met the previous owner of the truck yet, but spoken with him on the phone many times. I'm looking forward to getting a chance to sit down with a beer and chat, see what he knows about the trucks history.

If it's a 235 engine, & has a gvw of 16000lb.'s , it's going to be a 2 ton. | | | | | | Johnnyc47 Unregistered | | Johnnyc47 Unregistered | | | | | | Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 6 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 6 | the door tag has been spray painted over but I'm pretty sure that it says 14,000. ok on the AD trucks was there ever a factory heater? in my 56 there is. This truck seems to have bottom of the windshield glass vents for a defroster, but there is no heater core or ducting of any sort inside. This truck seems to be pretty stripped down model. does not have a radio either. Nor does it seem to ever have had one. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,144 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,144 | radio was definitely optional, not sure about when heaters became standard but could easily been removed due to leaks. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 90 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 90 | Hello from Mo. Ya got a great start on the ole bolt, body looks straight. I recently acquired a 52-6400 I'm calling it the rubber duck because of the camo paint job and the duck decoys (the previous owner did this artwork to the ole girl) I'm fixing to put a duck blind on the flatbed and a friend of mine wants to park it in his bog and hunt out of it.. then we'll start driving it next spring. (What fun) It was recently used to advertise a wild game dinner at the local school. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,733 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,733 | Let me add my Welcome to the others CheeZ and also congratulate you on rescuing another old "bolt.
A lot of us have adopted names for our trucks and if your considering that I'd like to suggest The Dalmation. The bottom photo in your links says it all.
How about sending a picture of the rear of the frame so we can help figure out what it may have been in it's past? | | | | | Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 6 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 6 | lol While I appreciate the name suggestion, I think I'll have to pass!!! The poor old guy has a pretty ugly color of pinkish red covering the factory blue. And to top that off the ugly pinkish has rattle bomb black that has faded and is what you see as the spots. I am probably going to leave the pinkish red for now but I'm going to do my damnedest to remove the rattle can drips!
I'll get those photos as soon as I'm home when the sun is up!! there isn't much left of whatever might have been back there, a homemade linkage/lever at the rear of the bed, and the PTO shaft and gear under the back of the cab. Someone welded and extended the bed with some channel out about 3 feet or so. The bed is now about 13ft long. My plans are to shorten that enough that I can get a goose neck horse trailer over the axle better, but leave enough to keep the longer look to it.
I am also going to snap a few shots of the Rims on it to see if anyone can advise me what they are. I think they're the three piece ones, but being new to this size wheel, I'd like to leave that to someone with more experience!! | | | | | Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 6 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 6 | hello all, im a new bolter as well. my great grampa passed not to long ago and had a bunch of these awsome pieces of history. and i was lucky enough to have saved two of them before they were cut up for scrap. i wish i could of had them all but being only 21 and still in my parents nest, they wouldnt allow it. i have a (as far as i know) 52 chevy 4400. the other i let one of my buddies in my mechanics class have in return for some help with my 79 camaro bodywork. his was a gmc 1/2 ton. they were all farm trucks and i have a lot of work to do.

The only thing you might have done different on your posting would be to start a new thread of your own instead of adding to this one. But no one's going to kick you out for that. | | | | | Joined: May 2011 Posts: 91 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2011 Posts: 91 | hello cheeZ
like you, i just purchased a big bolter. i found a 41 chevy 1.5 ton that had been sitting on a ranch idle for more than 50 years. not quite as clean as yours, but i love the body style. in fact, i had 46 1.5 ton in the early 80's. shouldn't have never let it go. anyway, we seem to be at the same juncture. good luck to you with this project and i'll be sure to keep an eye peeled for your posts.
