I finally got to prime the inside of the cab. Ground down the ugly welds, cleaned to metal, Phosphoric acid, Por-15 in seams and areas that had rusted and shot it with PPG epoxy. Now I get to fill the repairs to the dash and sand some more. At least it is primed for the winter. primed inside
Same here, sort of. My truck is in the paint shop. While the cab interior has been painted, my steer column needs to be removed and painted, and the exterior as well. The fenders and running board has been painted (a dark-dark shade of green that blends with the lighter metallic green cab, hood, and bedsides. The bedsides are home in the garage. I have sanded the wood and will be having the shop shoot it with a clear coat. I can't put the bed together until I have the truck. I can't get the truck back here until the painting is finished and we take it to the upholstery shop for the seat, headliner, door and kick panels.
put the rubber strips between the body and running boards on my panel... then put the running boards on...then finished up the serpentine system.... all but the tensioner that the powder coated still has and I made aluminum brackets to fasten my electric fan to the radiator collar...then mounted the radiator/fan assembly to the chassis.
...also replace 4 ballast that had went bad in my shop lights, cut grass and weed eat, watered garden, cut shurbery, and got all ready for the Southern Stovebolt reunion which is TOMORROW.
Oh, I forgot about having some gret BBQ with a Bolter tonight.

Thanks to all the sevice Men and Women for keeping us free to build Our trucks and live the good life.
Installed a SM420 4-speed (with 3,000 miles on it) in the 54 Suburban. Thanks to Bruce Bugay, I had a NORS u-joint for the enclosed driveshaft, and a NOS drive gear & driven gear for the speedometer (and the torque-tube rear cover from another stovebolter - but I forget who - sorry).
Went for a cruise yesterday and it seems to be OK. Macungie, here I come.
Village Memorial Day Parade on Monday - friends my age who served are marching (as are some of their sons and daughters who have served during the past 12 years).
If you count Friday, I got my doors hung for final fitting. So far on Saturday I cleaned my patio furniture... it's all I could manage in this stifling heat and un-announced thunderstorms.
Friday took the truck out to get some ice cream. Saturday took my recycling to the recycling center, stopped at Sonic Drive in for lunch, and picked up some flowers at soil at Home Depot. Used the truck as it was intended to be used and got some great waves and comments. Sunday plan on attending a weekly cruise-in.
I got some serious mechanical work done. I installed a rear end in my recliner.

I pulled the wheels off my front hubs to do an inspection on my '50 half ton. I also thought it was a good time to grease the zirk fittings on the front end. Found out that several were bad......heck, their only 60 years old!! Decided while I was under there I'd check out the shocks because they looked pretty rough. The top and bottom nuts were really hard to get off. After spraying with WD-40 and PB blaster I thought I had the top nut off one of the shocks and then it happened.......the bolt twisted off. Well, the shock was bad after all so I didn't feel too bad. Took the other side off without incident. Went to Advanced, O'Reilly, Auto Zone and NAPA and none of them had shocks to fit in stock, so I ordered two for the front end and they will be in Sunday by noon, so I should have them installed soon after. I also bought some new zirk fittings and installed those. The grease gun worked perfectly and now the front is full of new grease.
I had fun today!

Well, since this is General Truck Talk, and not the Greasy Spoon, I guess I should focus on what I got done with the Blue Funk, workwise. Friday, I took her to Jerseyville and bought a case of oil. That'll get me a couple hundred miles. Just kidding.
I then replenished my fuel supply with Belinda at a drive-in type of restaurant. (I've heard it said that Stovebolts run better on a full stomach.) We listened to Hank Williams on the two 4" speakers mounted in the radio grill. The audio test went fine.
I volunteered to work every weekend and holiday, so here I am. And there are you. Have a good one.
On Thrusday, I got my truck back from the paint shop, so will spend the weekend putting trim back on, etc. So far I have the mirror, headlight brezels, grill, bumpers, hubcaps and insignias installed. Work to be done include installing a mirror on the right side, installing a visor on right side of cab (never had one) and installing the bedwood/strips. (The bedwood will be a next week product as waiting on parts from Mar-K) Like Alvin, I also got the normal yardwork to be done, so I'll be a 'busy beaver" this weekend! On top of all of the above, I will pause to remember our Military and all they do to insure our freedom.
Thought I had the windshield and rear glass rubber replaced. Turned out the windshield will not go back in properly, and I cracked it doing so. (Searching here for a solution). But at least the rear window is back in nicely!

I child-proofed my house, but my kids keep finding their way back in.
Hi, my project is basket case 1953 GMC 5 window. I have inner fender painted and in process of installation, have radiator mounted, working on splash pan by sanding-painting and installation. did goof off on 4 wheeler in woods picking about 30 morrells. Raining today but will still work on 53.
On Friday I finally finished the brake job on Lucille! New master cylinder, new wheel cylinders, new lined huck brake shoes, new hoses, new brass blocks, and shiny new stainless brake lines!! And with good advice given to me by "Achipmunk" I was able to safefully drive to the Southern Stovebolters Reunion in Spartanburg, SC! It such a great feeling knowing that now I have a safe truck to enjoy riding. Lucille has other issues still but the brake thing has haunted me for three years. I finally had to make the decision to redo the whole system. A nice end to what was a lengthy process for me.

rat fink, I see you did your "effective leadership is putting first things first"....way to go. Congratulations. Now I need to try that "first things first" on my wife. Honey, the panel needs .......
I finally diagnosed why I was getting bad starters. My hot battery cable was intermittently touching the exhaust manifold, causing a tiny short. But that's all it takes.
Then I set the valve clearances on my old BMW and pulled the head off my old Triumph to get started on several projects for it.

I've finally the upgraded to rear discs. Had to change rearends (because I couldn't remove the spider gear pin out of the old one) and shorten the driveshaft and replace all the bearings along the way and removed a leaf to drop it just a bit but over all I think it looks pretty good. The discs are from a 98-02 LS1 & the rearend is an early 70's Camaro.
Got in my small cap distributor in the other day and installed it. Couldn't get it to start, found my tank full of water. Drained it but haven't had the chance to start it yet. It would be nice to finally get a chance to really drive this thing!!

Hey same here just got my truck rims changed. Got fascinated with the new stylish rims which I purchased online. But I am happy about it. Waiting for some more accessories to be placed in my truck.
Wow! Ya'll sure did a lot of stuff to your bolts today. Makes me feel like a weasel cause I got my carb up and working. Can't wait to get more time to start replacing the rusty parts with good metal again. Thanks for the inspiration.

Installed split manifold on my 51 Burb with 61 235. I was hoping for more noise, running out thru 26" cherry bombs. Maybe need some 36" smittys? Could be my ears, last car I had with split manifold was back in 63, sure seemed louder?

Had a computer crash, so I've been off for a week or so.
Anyway, I changed the jets (62's to 60's) and to a cooler thermostat for our elevation/temps here, in prep for cruising at Hot August Nights here in Reno.
Found some Trans fittings and moved the braided line away from the header to help it stay cooler and for a neater appearance. Things went smoothly for a change and seemed to help.
Not a darn thing, but I have the rewiring kit staring me in the face. I don't know how long it will take and have shows every weekend. Maybe I will have to call on some friends to help
