If the frame is Good then everything else can be fixed.

Spray a little starting fluid around the base of the carb, vacuum junctions, etc. while the engine is idling and listen for the rpm's to increase, when/if you hear the engine speed up a little, you've found your problem. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 22 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 22 | I sprayed around all the vacuum ports with no increase in RPM. This is an 56 oldsmobile Super 88 it was a government car kept on a Navy Base (Treasure Island) so it's been taken care of quite well the base closed in 91 and made its way to Michigan. By the looks of it the engine was rebuilt. The timing got out of wack when I put in a rebuilt transmission. I cant time it spot on with the engine running at such a high RPM kind of stuck here. I'm going to take the carb apart clean it with cleaner fluid and an air compressor and report back.

Pull each hose off at the carb or manifold and put a little suction on and see if it holds. Sometimes the vacuum advance diaphrams will leak or if it has power brakes, could be a leak there. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 1,644 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 1,644 | Check and see if it has a in carb fuel filter ,remove the inlet pipe and the fitting if that is cloged it will do the same thing.

Also if it was at T-I, some drunken sailor may have pee'd in the carb or worse.

And while you have the line off check fuel pump press and volume.
