The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot '60-'66 Trucks Finally Figured Out the Floor Switch!!!

I figured out completely on accident what the steel pedal on the far left on the floor of my '65 does, the brights! I just got a touchfree carwash but didnt close up my triangle windows all the way and payed for it with massive globs of lava hot rainbow wax all over me, the pedals, my dash, and the floor of the cab! Well, at least it smelled good. Anyhoo, after I exited the car wash building and after the hurricane katrina dryers succesfully blew 4 short tons of yard debris out from under my toolbox, my waxey boot slipped right off the clutch (in traffic too, just for that added adrenaline rush!) and mashed down on the brights switch, thus lighting up the dash with "BRIGHT" in red letters. So glad to know I have those, had no idea they even existed then! Anyway, for those of you who don't know what that floor switch does, like me 30 minutes ago...It's a Bright switch!

Man you just opened yourself up to all kinds of jokes and ridicule, but I'll hold back and just say that you're lucky you didn't run into something. I don't think I have ever seen an actual spelled out bright indicator.

I know right, between the embarrasement from stalling out and the thought of what i'd look like on the grill of that Peterbilt coming at me at 55 mph it was a bad night till I made my discovery!

Back when they decided to put the high/low switch on the turn signal lever, the blondes were all wrecking their cars. Their feet were getting stuck in the steering wheels trying to dim their lights!!

Oh man that's waaaaay too funny dude! Obviously you've never had an older vehicle till now! They were like that until sometime in the 1980s I think.

Yea, only other truck I know by heart is a 2005 2500HD, so yea its quite surprising to me.

You will find that a lot of things were thought of a long time ago. Auto dimming headlights? Cadillac did it in the '50's. Headlights that turn with the wheels? That was done the first time in the '30's by Tatra. First auto on/off headlights? Cadillac in the '60's...

My point here is that just because it's old don't think it doesn't have something as a feature or that it wasn't thought of back then. Dimmer switches have been around a day or two, as have other things. Get to know your truck intimately, that's all I'm saying in a wordy round-about way

Yeah, after driving all these newer trucks it takes some time to get back into the practice of driving something older. With a 3 speed I have to remember to dim my lights before I stop at the red lights and stop signs.. in case I meet someone while sitting there with my foot on the clutch.

Of course we had old cars and tucks when i was growing up.. Although I am not that old I remember seeing daddy start a old 2 ton, 1950 Chevy with the manual choke and the starter button in the floor.... it was quite an art to work the right foot to get the break starter and gas... ah.. the old days.. I remember my daddy using an old Allen cham. tractor with the hand crank.

I remember the first time I used the high beams in my first '66, and loved the way the indicator on the dash spelled out the word BRIGHT.

Sometimes when I drive my girlfriend's Toyota, I turn on the wipers when I mean to put it in DRIVE. I'm used to using the selector on the column in my truck.

Haha yea when I took off the steering wheel to fix the blinker switch I almost went into cardiac arrest when I saw quick connects on my electrical stuff. Anyone know where the original speakers or speaker was located? I found two under my bench and one under a vent in between the 2 defroster vents.

There was only one original radio speaker.....in the dash between the defroster vents. Finding the dimmer switch on the floor reminds me of a story a friend from work told about his 10 year old daughter. He had bought a jeep and was taking her for a ride when she asked, "Daddy, where is the switch to roll down the windows?" She had never seen a car without electric windows.
It is amazing the things that were luxuries to us are now considered standard.

well i usually have trouble figuring out stuff on newer cars when i try to drive someones car. turn the wipers on, stomp the brake reaching for the clutch, can't turn on the lights stuff like that, so i can't laugh at you too much.

I always catch myself trying to drive a stick when I'm in an automatic.

Raise the left foot to push in the clutch and then realize "Thar Ain't No Clutch"

I kept stepping on the dimmer switch on my dads old chevy truck but all it wanted to do was start running lol

I hate it when you go to clutch out in an automatic, the tires lock up

If you really want messed up my 90 Chrysler LeBaron is a doozie! all the controls are on the gauge cluster shell, even the turn signal switch ! The light switch is above that and the wiper switch on the right side not the left....yes it's factory not Barny Shadetree custom

The original speaker is mounted under the "vent" between the defroster vents You will need to remove the radio to service the speaker.

Thanks, it needs attention, the speaker fabric looks like a torn up burlap sack thats been stretched across some sheet metal.
