I would like to find a good number for the front bearings, because the Hyatt number no one seems to be able to cross over. These are tapered barrel bearings, meaning the rollers are shaped like a beer barrel. The Hyatt numbers are A-11038 - outer brg. ? - outer race A-11424 - inner brg. 11424-Z - inner race From a former listing here someone had said that Bower numbers 3383,3320,2687,2631 were good as a current number for those bearings which they are NOT. Does anyone have a bearing number other than Hyatt that will cross to provide a good number so I can get some bearings for a chevy 2ton. I also believe that once a good number is found I can get these bearings cheaper than the 100 bucks Carter wants for one bearing. Dan

APPLIED INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGIES CO.INC. These guys can find even very rare bearings as they are world wide company. Just look them up on the net. Oh and may I ad that we used Timkin bearings at work and they seemed be the best we found. 62Blue Don

They are tapered roller bearings, rollers shaped like a coke can not barrel shaped, plus the inner bearing has no collar for the seal to run on. The ID of the bearing and OD of the race would not allow it to be installed. When I first seen them I was thinking they would replace the barrel type, but after checking the ID and OD I could see they would not work. I was hoping that over the years someones truck had ended up with some bearings in it other than Hyatt which would give another number to search with.

Most of the manufacturers made standard tapered roller bearing replacements for these, which carried the same part number as the Hyatt bearings. The numbers I came up with came from crossimg the GMC part numbers in a master bearing interchange catalogue. Could you please tell me which numbers are correct, you can P.M. if you like, thanks. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 502 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 502 | 3B, I don't have the numbers, give me some numbers. I don't understand what your asking. The only numbers I have which I know are correct are the Hyatt numbers. The bearings I ordered and have here are Federal Mogul p/n Inner-3383 / 3320 Outer- 2687 /2631. The 2687 is a Timkin. I just tried my FLAPS with the numbers you gave above and maybe they can be had but they are not in the wharehouse. They would have to go to factory. Dan

I think I also got one of the outer wheel bearings from them, I found two on ebay, one was a tapered roller and one was a barrel so I only used one of them. NAPA has listings for the bearings, but they don't exist in their stock. I think the seals came: one from California and one from Tennessee.

I checked the Napa site this morning, and the picture of the cone shows it sitting up off of the table so I hope that means it has the seal surface on the back of it. The napa numbers for those bearings are BRGBR17888 $67.99, and BRGBR17830 $19.69. The 17888 has an I.D. of 1.75", and the 17830 has an O.D. of 3.125", do those dimensions sound correct? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 502 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 502 | 3B, As soon as it gets light out I'll go out to the shop and check the outer brg. Outer brg.-ID-1.00, cage dia-2.00, thickness-.731 I don't have the race out of the hub to measure that. It would be nice if there was a tapered rollar bearing tp replace these out dated rollar barrel bearings. I went to Applied Ind.Tech and you can choose bearings by size but I didn't see where they dealt with any part numbers. Dan

Are you saying the cost of those are 99 ea. One would think the outer bearing would be a little cheaper than the inner as it is a smaller bearing.

I kept the boxes but they are a generic box, that just says "ball and roller bearings" and the part numbers are written with marker. They have the same numbers as the original Hyatts that were in my truck. KA 11020 for the outer and KA 11410. There is no marking on the box who made them. The bearings are installed now, and I don't remember the name. It was three letters like, RAC or RAB. But I can't recall. They didn't have them on their shelves but I received them in about a week. I purchased them in April. There is a item on the invoice that says "Rep: JA". So I am assuming that is the person I talked to. The item number on the invoice just says NS-OLCAR for each bearing. So, I think it was sourced outside. The phone number is 800 841 6622. Hope that helps you. The inner bearing I ordered is in and the rep says it's a Hyatt bearing with the original part number. For a company that went south long ago they must have made a bunch of those bearings.
At 99 ea. it seems to me that whoever can provide the bearing chooses to charge what ever they want. Dan

I checked another source, an actual GM book and it referenced the same numbers you say are incorrect, so two books have the wrong information. I gave you two other numbers for the inner bearings, 17888 is a cone, the I.D. is 1.75", the cup is 17830, it has an O.D. of 3.125", Napa p/ns for these are BRGBR17888 $67.99, and BRGBR17830 $19.69, have you checked these numbers out? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 1,867 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 1,867 | This may be a dumb question, but could the hubs have been swapped out at some point? I took my old bearings to two bearings houses in BC, and NAPA in Washington state. The two places in BC were a bust. The guy at NAPA must have been the most patient salesman NAPA has in the world. He went through several old cross reference books, and on the NAPA network and could not find any bearings. He spent 3 hours, I kid you not. These bearings are just hard to find. I am sure they are out there somewhere, I was lucky that the Filling station got my order. I would say keep an eye on ebay.

This is a hard brg to describe if you have not seen one. Today we see the seal ride a ring which is part of spindle, take that ring and put it on the inner part of the brg. and when installed in the hug the seal rides it because it protrudes through the seal. What bearing manufacture does BRGBR refer to ? The inner brg. I ordered from Bates in St. Louis,Mo the rep said was A Hyatt bearing.
Rustednuts- The truck is a low mile, unmessed with, stock looking truck so I don't think the hubs where changed out but here's the numbers on the frt. hubs- 3681888. Let me know what that refers to if you find it.

As I told you in an earlier post, the picture of 17888 on the Napa site appears to show the bearing sitting up off of the table, and its thickness measurement is 1.28" if my memory serves me. I have ordered one of each of 17888 cone, and 17830 cup, just to verify that they are the bearings for this application, they will be here in a couple of weeks with my suppliers regular order. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,795 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,795 | If you can find a tapered roller bearing setup with the correct ID and OD specifications, it should be very simple to have a spacer ring machined for the seal to ride on. Just LocTite the spacer to the load tube or spindle, and go with the more common tapered roller as a replacement. I've done this on a couple of oddball imports with no direct replacement bearings in the past. Jerry

Today I picked up the new Hyatt bearing from Bates Sales Co. which have their HQ in St.Louis. The bearing is stamped Hyatt with the original numbers but came in a pretty dark blue generic box along with another number (SO712895)which is on both boxes even though whats inside is different. I asked the rep. where these come from and his reply was,"we have our sources". He added that a lot of times a old stock is bought up by some outfit and reboxed for sale again. It would seem as though there is some technicality in play here to justify the expense of reboxing these.....or maybe the original boxes got so old looking no one would believe there's a new brg. inside It only boils down to the fact that the brg. can be bought but who has them past the retail level remains a mystery plus not every retail place can deal with a Hyatt number.
