I work for a company in Las Vegas which fabricates exhibits for the tradeshow industry. In December 2005, one of our AE was the middle party involved in acquiring this truck for one of his clients, The Lee Jeans Co. They wanted to use the truck to display their jeans in the utility compartments of the bed. Our shop did some minor modifications to install slim neon lights and interior linings inside the utiliy compartments using mostly double-face tape and velcro for adhesive. Lee Jeans Co used the truck twice in 2006 and then changed their display. The old truck sat in one of our warehouses thereafter.
At the end of 2008, Lee Jeans Co decided to write off the truck and let our AE dispose of it in whatever manner he chose as long as there were no cost to them. They had paid $2,500.00 for it plus an additional $500.00 to have their logo painted on the hood. Our AE tried to sell it for $1,200.00. I asked him what would be his lowest price. He said he would consider $700.00. Later on I walked in his office, laid 4 $100.00 bills on his desk. I walked out with the papers and the keys. So for $400.00 I had just bought myself a perfectly running 1951 Chevy 3/4 ton utility truck with a new 6 Volt battery (only used twice), 4 brand new tires & rims, a freshly overhauled inline 6 216 engine (overhauled in 2005 by the previous owner). All lights work, all windows are good, Fenton dual exhaust manifold. What a deal!!!
The only other similar truck in your gallery was from "Builder" Bolter #6449 with a 1952 1/2 ton utility truck. My utility has the name Powers of St. Louis as the conversion company. I need parts for it (tailgate). I seems to have other minor things missing but without a pix of what it should look like it's hard to tell. Can anyone help me out. This is my first project, I fell in love with it (of course the price helped) and it's a keeper.

New Stovebolter named "GARANDBOY" just bought one very similar to yours from a friend of mine. Same color,same util. bed,but you got a little better deal than him.

Well,thanks guys. I just finished cleaning my garage so I can put the old gal in there (the truck of course). This would be the first time in over 40 years that I actually use my garage to store a vehicle. With the temperature buzzing around 110 degrees that makes it difficult to touch any part of it.
I appreciate everybody's comments and correction (from 54TOW) and special thanks to Garandboy for the tip on coachbuilt website. I got more info in 2 minutes than I've been able to get for the past 4 months.

I have a utility Box on my 1948 GMC 3/4 ton. I have only seen one other ( I think it was a 1950 chevy) AD truck with a utility box on it outside of yours. Sounds like you got a great deal on a unique truck.

Hey Trey, nice to know that there's a few other utility trucks out there. Do you know the name of the conversion company that fabricated the box? Mine has the name Powers on the box doors handles. Stovebolter "Garandboy" gave me a website to look up the company and it turned out to be a gem. It was awsome. I added a few more pictures of the box showing different angles. The picture of his truck showed that the tailgate covered the inside dimension of his box. Mine (no tailgate yet) has to cover the outside dimension of the box. Slightly different model I guess.

Well, I finally got that '51 utility truck in the garage today. No more direct 110 degrees sunrays on the old gal for now. That Las Vegas desert heat can really bake everything. The average lifespan of batteries, tires and wiper blades is about 2 years out here. I think that old truck looks a little cocky (and that's OK) sitting right in the middle of my garage, a privilege that's been denied to ALL my vehicles for the past 40+ years.
I sprung a water leak in the process of moving it and from the location it looks like the water pump gave out.
I added a few more pictures showing different angles of the box and close-up of the doors handles.
Well, thanks for sharing comments with me. I'm becoming addicted to this site, but it's a good addiction.

Hi Paul,I hope you are aware,there is no known cure!
You can reduce the 'cold turkey' by regularly wrenching on your 'bolt,but at least you've recognised you have an addiction.

not sure about a conversion company. I have not seen any type of logo or name anywhere on it. My mother thinks my grandfather built it himself. You can see where the seams are hand welded. I think it might have been some kind of pre-cut weld together yourself utility box. Anyway it sure will carry alot more than the origional bed. The tailgate on mine also covers the inside dimension of the box.

My bud and I stopped by and checked your truck a few weeks ago (Todd & Lance) and he tried to buy it from you, It's cool that you found your way here there is a lot of AWESOME FOLKS HERE with LOTS of knowledge willing to answer and help with any of your truckin needs. I built a pretty cool ol hotrod with their help
