I've asked before, but trying again:
Does anyone have info on getting a title?
In my state (FL) it seems I need proof of the last registration to either title, or have the court award me the vehicle.
With no vin to track (the engine is long since replaced) there's no way to track this vehicles history, even if conneticut (where I gotit)kept records that long.
Any help is apopreciated.
Rick.
personal replies are fine.

Sounds like you need to buy a new title. Place an ad in the swap meet in case someone will be scrapping one soon. I just scrapped a 54 4400 and still hold the title, same with a 66 C10. Maybe go to a salvage yard and buy a junker with a title. There's always a way around it. Some states only require a bill of sale. May have to title it in another state first,
Scott

in kansas with a bill of sale before 1949 they just make a new title no questions asked, but after 1949 a bill of sale gets a salvage title -- I think,

on my 63 i have a nebraska title, the orginal owners signed it and left it as an open title, i bought the truck from the guy who bought it from the orginal owners, i went to go have it inspected an found out i must have the guy i bought it from sign it and file for title then sign it over to me (and one of us is going to have to pay back taxes). that is lot of back tracking. with the work i have put in it i will not have him file for a title in his name because then there is no proof the truck is mine. i do have the bill of sell but he would have the title so while picking up my brothers title i asked a lady at state DMV what would be the easiest way to file for my title i told her the problem and that i have a bill of sale. she told me to go have the truck reinpected show them the bill of sale and do not tell them about the title, and they will file for a salavage title

Thanks for the info guys.
I am keeping my eye open for a truck for sale, If you see one, let me know.
I will place an add.
I will check into the salvage title & Florida laws.
The lady at the DMV seemed to take pleasure in telling me I probably won't be able to title it.

Another question I have is: Are the only vin numbers on the engine? as far as I know, the door jamb tag does not contain the vin.
Correct?

Thanks again Guys
Rick.

the door jam tag has a serial number. Some states use that number others use engine number some use either. Both my 38 and the 54 are titled according to tags on the vehicle. To throw a another wrench into it my 38 truck was reengined in 1942 and retitled as a 42 even though it's still using the 1938 cowl tag number. Apparently at that time if you rebuilt or replaced the major components you could register current year sort of like glider kit trucks today.
