hello. anyone know of a classic car insurer who would write a policy for an older car worth 15 grand, comp and collision, but without me having a garage ?
every company i call wont write a policy unless i have a garage. i want to buy a classic car, but need to have insurance to pay for it if i wreck it.

See if the company that you use for your daily driver has a "classic/collector car" division,
they may be able to help.

yes, i alreeady have, geico. they have a collector car insurance branch, but they also said i gotta have a garage.....i am willing to pay full price, like on my daily driver, $1200.00 a year, but they wont insure it.

You might check with AAA. I just read a flier about their classic car insurance. They give you a discount for keeping it in a garage but not required. Worth a look.

Welcome to the 'bolt Ratrodking! If you go to Grundy's site they state you must have a garage but I talked to one of their agents at a Goodguys show last year and told him I only had a carport. He said, "I think we can work with that" and 2 weeks later I was with Grundy at a savings of several hundred $$$ a year. No mileage limit, agreed value of $16k. Good luck!!

Ratrodking, I use my regular carrier, Sentry Insurance they have a classic car division with an agreed value ploicy, and as far as I know they do not require a garage, they do however have a mileage limit wich kinda sucks.

Welcome to the bolt,Ratrodking. I have my Studebaker with Safeco @ 1-718-523-2266 or www.safeco.com. They never asked me about it being garaged. Give them a call or go on line and check it out.

Do a search here on the Bolt for insurance. There has been many conversations on this topic and many specialty insurance companies listed. Good hunting and welcome to the Bolt.

I AM LOOKING FOR AN OLDER TRUCK, 55-57, OR ANYTHING THAT IS COOL, EVEN A CAR LIKE A 66-67 NOVA, BUT WANT TO MAKE SURE I CAN INSURE IT WITHOUT A GARAGE FIRST.

Can't you just put full coverage on it with an agreed upon value? They base your premiums on how much you set the value for,

The garage requirement does make sense. I would think that a classic left outside would be a more attractive target for theft than a newer vehicle. It might also have something to do with your zip code. I think paid claims are tracked by location. That's why a lot of times insurance is cheaper if you live in the country, even though you may have a longer commute to work.

It's all a numbers game on how they calculate risk. There could be merit in checking out some of the other carriers as a few others have suggested.

At the current cost of insurance it might be cheaper to build a garage!

a few of the companies i contacted before said if it is over 20 years old, they wont insure with comp and collision, meaning if i wreck it or it is stolen i get nothing. only if i have a garage.
but like some of you have said, why cant we just agree on a value and insure it for that ? i am willing to pay the same price i do on my daily driver, 1200.00 a year.

My insurer Auto Owners never asked if I had a garage,(They have it insured also) I just sent them picutres of the truck and what I wanted it insured for (18k) I pay very little for insurance as it is laid up 6 months of the year and is licensed as a historical vehicle.
Only pay about $150 for my coverage, $500 deductble.

i have a garage, but the truck cant be stored in it. i wonder if they will believe me if i tell them i store it in there. im only 18, still live at home, so the garage is for my parents car. i quess its worth a shot.

I've got mine insured through AAA with just PLPD for something like $300 a year. I contacted Hagerty and they wouldn't insure it because it was too ugly.

I'll wait until I get the dents beaten out of it and then try again.

Good company so far. I really don't remember them asking if we were garaging the 66.
