Is the dash factory welded to the firewall or is it just bolted. I see bolts on the side but wasn't sure about the firewall. Thanks in advance.

28-32 spotwelds along the bottom of the windshield.

Yikes! Kiss that idea goodbye. The previous owner has some small speakers mounted under the oval center vent in the dash and i could figure out how to he got em in there.

badriand, I am going thru the same thing with my 65. The dashboard looks ike it needs painting,so I was hoping it would be easy to take it out and paint it.I got out some rubbing compound and cleaned about half of it up,and it looks pretty good. So maybe with a couple of rubbing compound treatments and a good polishing it will look OK.Good luck with your 66.

Now, back to your question. Why do you need to remove it? Did someone hack it up and it looks bad? They sell patch panels and smoothing panels for the radio area or I have some used pieces I've pulled while scrapping.

We run into the problem of people that have the painting and upholstery all done and then decide their dash looks scruffy. Scroll down page to first pic (black 53 ford 4dr) at http://s32.photobucket.com/albums/d41/coilover/
The painters plastic is about $15 at Home Depot and the aluminum foil is used to quickly cover all the irregular shaped stuff. Get a couple rolls of masking tape, allow a half day for masking, sand any areas needing it, clean, clean, and reclean, prime and paint. It will look factory and alot less time than removal.

I forget about the search function. No biggie , will try and remember next time. Previous owner hacked away to install a radio (hate when they do that) and install speakers on top but they are under the center vent. I couldn't figure how he got them in there becasue they are screwed from the top but looks like he build a contraption and then installed it from underneath. I was wanting to pull out fix, sand down repaint but i will just tape off and work it. Thanks guys.

Do you have a picture of what you need? I have a radio section cut out of a 64 dash if you want to weld in a patch. I would like to see the speaker contraption too,

My dash looked the same way, I had to pull the fan box and a brace under dash to get at crappy Woolworth's speaker under the dash.I figure with the winsheild out, I will be able to weld it up. All those spot welds pretty much garauntee's most dashes are "original to the truck".
