I relocated this 3100 from Kansas to New England over 10 years ago and completed a complete frame-off rodsteration and I wish stovebolt.com was around way back then because it's already been a help even tho I'm a noob here.

Besides a four inch cab chop, a 350/350 combo, a 1988 reworked bed and the Plymouth Prowler Orange paint, the interior is coming together thanks to a few pieces from Harmon's. She sounds sweet especially with the headers uncorked and is exactly what I wanted, a driver, with some personality in a color no one else has around here.

I figured ya'll would like to see it now, because it was pretty much a basket case when she crawled off the trailer.

thanks guys!

i was told by this old timer that i had "ruined" a fine old truck by swapping out the engine, chopping the roof etc. i showed him the truck, formerly a home for field mice and petrified corn husks, wasn't in great shape and that i had actually rescued same...

so its good to hear some positive feedback

houston54... this one's for you

I wouldn't get too concerned about a comment like that unless his name was on the title instead of yours!! Did he happen to have his restored truck or even a picture to show you how it "should" have been done? I'll bet not!!!

It's amazing how some folks are so quick on the trigger to make a negative comment. I've found it's usually because they're armed with blanks!!!! Good job and most importantly....it's the way YOU want it!!!

absolutely a unique truck. I like it and thanks for "resurrecting" it instead of sending it to the crusher. Most would not give it a second thought. The purist can go crazy if they want but the way I see it is you at least saved some of it!! Been there!! Nice job and welcome to the Bolt. While you are basically complete you have a vast amount of knowledge to share with others.

Now thats one great lookin truck. Dont worry about the geezers who think you should leave them stock. I used to have a couple guys come around at the cruisins and start talking that crap.I always showed them the way to the gate. I have a 55 and a 65,and they are both streetrods, one with a Chevy 350 and the other one has a 500cu.in.Caddy. I wouldnt have them any other way. Your truck is lookin GOOD.

Great looking truck and really like the late model stepside bed on it. Did you happen to keep a photo journal of how you adapted that to the frame? I'd bet there's a bunch of people who'd consider doing that conversion with the price of a new steel rear fender running more than what you get a bed for at a boneyard.

And ditto to what the others said about naysayers and critics. Personally I found those types of comments a motivator to make even more changes grin

thanks for all the props guys (and possibly a girl out there) the road to completion was well documented (i'm a photographer for a newspaper) so yes, i've got quite a few pics... i did huge amount of work on this ride, paying others only when i didn't have the talent... like coming into the body shop and seeing a "topless" truck when the roof was sectioned into nine pieces and sitting on the floor.

i am still spitting out pieces of black beauty 'blastin media from 1985, laying on my back in the dirt driveway, in july, attacking rust with a vengeance

robin50... the adaptation was fairly straightforward with welded up brackets being the way to go... filler panels took care of the rearliights, filled in the gas tank port, and removed the black plastic "steps" on the stepside... oh yeah, filled the tailgate handle and added the blue dots.

yeah... i get more thumbs up from passing cars than mr. grumpy who i think has his thumb somewhere else...

this was my first (and last) frame off rodsteration, so i am no whiz, but i can tell ya where every nut, bolt, rivit, wire, and more is on my truck, and you can't say that when ya take out the checkbook and buy a ride.

all i have to do is brainstorm a "ceiling" solution as with chopping the top, no way will a repro headliner fit... also, the outer window frames need to be sectioned and installed... and then i have an idea on how to better blend the running boards into the bed...

and so it goes

I've noticed this one myself with my '65 c10... people telling me what I should do with my truck .

I usually reply with : man! that sounds nice! are you gonna gimme the $$$ to do it?

grin

That usually shuts 'em up.

funny... my 25 year old son has a great comeback for tactless statements once made against one of his rides... wink

he'd look around the parking lot and say "So, what are you driving?"

nine times out of ten, they were rolling something not so cool, or just usin up their shoe leather

case closed

Awsome looking ride. I'm sure it gets lots of second looks and slack jaws as you're riding around. My personal preference is for a restoration BUT that's my preference and I'll never critize anyone for following their dream/vision to make them happy. It's obvious that you've put a lot of work into the ol' girl and I have nothing but admiration for someone that sticks wtih a project that long, I hope I get mine done before ten years is up and it looks half as nice. Congratulations, it looks great!

870pilot,

Beautiful truck.

It took me 10 years to restore my Suburban. It is a "stock restore" and I get a lot of smiles and thumbs-up and hoots/honks from young people.

Do what you like - and, drive it. Your son is absolutely right - the advice givers have no idea what goes into a restoration (any kind of restoration).

I wish I was there to see the grin on YOUR face when you first drove it. Priceless.

according to the wife, the grin was W I D E and continuous... sorry guys, this is my last frame off rodsteration... i'm pushing 50 and this one is gonna last me cool for a while. considering the amount of scratch invested, i could have gone out and bought a pretty straight/stock classic car/truck driver and just drove it... but then i wouldn't have the stories and the scars that i now...

my current driver is a 1999 chevy suburban, a gift from my mother in law, the truck belonged to her late husband, and i now drive it for sentimental reasons (not for the gas mileage) and i have a very soft spot for suburbans...

TIM: went to your page, gotta love the Carry-All... very impressive collection of AD iron indeed eek

Looks great Pilot-

I saw the bed treatment also done on a 55 second series truck for sale on ebay..looked equally stunning. Can you tell me what year and model the bed is from? Love the look.

thanks, keith... it's great to be here...

the bed is a "sportside" the fancy name for the stepside beds... this one was from a 1988 chevy/gmc...

the best part is that the length/width of the donor bed fit the 50 frame very well... besides welding up the brackets, it was a nice fit, AND let me mount some bigger mickey thompsons in the rear...

if i can be of more help, PM me smile

keith...

mmmmmmmmm... i'd say a "middle" bed? i haven't done the research, or if i did, i forgot, but i thought these guys only came in one length back then... i could be wrong... i do know that the 1988/89 bed fit nice !
