Hey DBone! I just got mine home last weekend! It's kind of overwhelming at first, but don't ever give up, just take breaks along the way. And yes pics are everyones favorite thing to look at! Good luck with your bolt!

Congrats on the new project! Have patience with your lady -- she'll see it in time.

Now you're on the right track to go slow and document. Also, be sure to check out our Tech Tips and Features -- lots of good knowledge in there, especially for Getting Started . Also, if you don't have it already, be sure to get a copy of Tom Brownell\'s How to Restore your Chevrolet Pickup .

And welcome aboard!

Regards,
John

I have a 51 as well. Somewhere, I was told that the 51 should have the 3100 below the Chevrolet on the hood. But yours and every one I see on eBay has just the Chevrolet, so I now believe that mine is as it came from the factory.

The Korean War necessitated the dropping of the 3100 from the hood badge. Saved on chrome and metal. BW

You are probably correct. GM documentation states that the 3100 was below the Chevrolet on 49 through 51 models, and the 3100 was dropped in 52. However, there is a lot of evidence from many original 51's that the changeover took place sometime in the 51 model year production for the reasons given by R. Wyant.

Here's a web page on Hood Side Emblems that you can find on my Advance Design website .

Thanks for the info and the link Jeff. Mine is a very late (August 1951) 51 model year truck. I have found that it has chrome window crank knobs, a plastic widshild wiper knob and painted grills on the dash. So they made some changes as they ran out of parts.

Looks like a long but fun project.Wish you well and keep us all posted. Try to keep a picture trail so that you can show what you have accomplished as you go along. Most guys end up with a book that is the pride of the coffee table.

Good luck with the project, I am just about twelve months into my restoration, and I have the chassis rolling. Take some digital pics as you start to strip out various parts,it helps on the re-assembly a few months later.
I only have the chevrolet badge on my hood ,Its a June 1951 vintage.

update the engine in my bolt is a 46 i think 216 that was stored right, plugs were out, oil is good in it, i think ill get a set of plugs, points, and wires and try to start it see how it sounds, it turns over by hand easy... if it runs ok, ill have it torn down update rods bearings and hardened valve seats. more to follow.... body man checked her out said everything closes and fit is perfect on the doors.

What GREAT day! You have a wonderful truck to fix. My only advice is to beg, borrow, or rent a pressure washer and clean everything. Working on a CLEAN bolt
is just heaven.

I just hauled in my 51 last Sat. I'm still trying to get the tranny unstuck ( it's in 1st, so it just scoots the rear tires, engine is stuck and the clutch won't release, fun, fun, fun!) grin

As mentioned before, WE WANT PICS! LOL
Good luck with your truck however you decide to go with it.

Post your pictures on a free hosting site (my personal favorite is Yahoo! - that's where I'm keeping all my pictures as I go through the process), then put a link in your post for all to see. The other thing is to send Peggy the information and pictures that you want in the gallery (see http://www.stovebolt.com/submission.htm for more information) so the pictures and your story can be seen by all 'bolters.
Hope this helps.

dbone,

Please put links to the pix and not the pix themselves. Meaning, hit the "url" button below and not the "image" one.

Thanks,
Peg

Go to the website for you pic's. and when you can see on you screen the thumbnail pics, then look at your address bar at the top of your screen rt. click and copy the addressl. If you cant see the pic's. we can't see the pic.'s
Then before you post the link preview you post and click on the link you just made to make sure it works. I have had to monkey with the links to make mine work sometimes.

I'm asking because I have photobucket and the only way i can share photos w/ you guyz from it on any thread is by giving out my password.

you on the other hand simply ell visiors to pull up he phoobucke web link and type in dbone

that's what i wish to know how to do .... w/o giving up or having anyone type in my password

my early 51 - 3100 has the 3100 in the hood.
