The question is, Do I put wide white walls on my truck. I know white walls were not original to the truck. Does anyone think the white walls would look out of place?

Any Thoughts!

I wouln't on a 3/4 ton. The seem to be out of place to me. I now of a guy that put them on a '49 1 ton, they didn't look right. Then he pet a set of Goodyear blackwall mud grips on it, there were more positive remarks on it with those tires.

Different strokes for different folks. If you think it looks good no one else's opinion matters unless you're building a Pebble Beach truck.

It's your decision. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I wouldn't put white walls on a truck of any size. I just think they lookout of place on a vehicle that was designed for hauling, towing, camping, etc.

White walls are for pretty not for function. I think white walls would look gay on a truck, gangster on an old car.

Good, I thought I was the only one who thought white walls looked "gay"!! (sorry for those who think otherwise!!)

I put an ad in the paper for firestone tires. I received a call last nite from a guy who has what I want except there wide white walls on rims for $300.canadian. So the price is right, but the look is wrong! Thanks for your opinions.

I'll keep looking! Universal tire looks very promising!

EZ,

I think that you should go with some working truck tires. Either a good set of pavement pounders or my personal favorite a knobby set of farm/mud tires. I really like the look of the old school style off road tires, espescially on your year of truck. Personally I would add some attitude with the mud tires and leave the white walls to the show trucks. Either way though, do what you want, my opinion is exactly that, mine. The beauty of free thought and action is doing what you want to.

Excuse the spelling, or maybe I should say the mis-spelling. grin Pebble Beach is one of several Concourse DeElegance shows where antique vehicles are judged and awarded points on originality and quality. Being "correct" for the year/car is paramount. If a car normally came from the factory with overspray in a certain area and your restoration didn't have the correct amount of overspray in those areas you would be penalized. If, in this case, wide whitewalls weren't offered from the factory you would lose points in the judging if your truck had wide whitewalls. If you ever hear someone refer to a "high point" car, that is what they are referring to, a car of extremely high quality and originality.

Where does a grain gate cut into the tail gate, wheat and soybeans stuck in the fenders, mouse pee in the header and road grime fit into the point system?

North Dakota must have had a different grading system! grin

I like whitewalls on my old 1/2 ton trucks but i,m from the old school. They were an option back then. I had them on a 54 Ford pickup I bought new. ($1250). I,m straight by the way. Photo in Gallery of my 55-2. 4th one down.

Old School - you mean Old Ford School?

"Does anyone think the white walls would look out of place?"

Apparently not at the old Ford school.

Nonetheless, do what you like.

I personally love the combo of black wall tires and black rims for that classic farm truck look, however, I also love the look whitewall tires give a truck that’s had a hard life a chance to relax and just cruise on easy street. That’s the beauty of these forums, were all entitled to our own opinion. Mine happens to be both, but for those of you who feel something is "GAY" because its not your personal preference is being small minded. That’s like calling someone who only likes black rugged terrain tires a "redneck" which would also be an unfair judgment.
I have had both styles of trucks and do not consider myself on one or the other side of the fence and despite the fact that apologies were offered for a poor choice of words, doesn’t make using those words acceptable. People will be offended. Instead of apologizing ...... make a better choice in the first place.

Take a look at my '51 3/4 ton with white walls. The truck is dark green and black. Judge for yourself. I had black walls originally and the truck looked like it needed something. I get LOTS of positive comments on the look.

ez---If those tires are what you want otherwise, is it possible to just turn the whites to the inside? If the price is in your ballpark, it would be a shame to pass them up.

46IP--It's been a long time since I've seen a grain gate cut into a pickup tailgate. That was when pickups were made to WORK! The combines they have now hold more in the hopper than would fit in a pickup!

Maybe get a set of the fake white walls. The ones that fit in-between the bead of the tire and the rim.If you don't like them, take them off.

I think white walls on a 41 will look boss. Especially the big wide white walls. Do you want your truck to stand out a bit or look like every other truck? And like they said, if you don't like em, you can remount them with the white walls on the inside.

I am a white wall fan, see my link to the 59 Apache.

However you have to do what "you" feel is right.

Best of luck

To me, whitewalls on a truck look like Hulk Hogan wearing a skirt.

I don't think you are gay if you have them, but I would feel gay if I had them.

I have whitewalls on my truck and it is sad to read on this thread that some of you guys hate them.

I am sure these same guys would hate my truck's colour, the selection of visor and would want to junk the 216 and replace it with something larger.

However, I am also sure, if these same fellows were to meet me and drive my truck for awhile, their opinions would change.

I receive a lot more positive comments then negative ones regarding my truck and tires.

Make your own choices Ezhaulin41.

Do what makes you feel good when you look at your truck or cruise around town.

Niagra -

It is your truck and you have every right to be proud!!!!!!!!

Your truck is totally awesome looking, the visor is awesome, I truly like the color, and I commend you for keeping the 216. The whitewalls look very good, no kidding. Nevertheless if it was my truck I would replace them immediately.

Geeze Niagra, don't take it so personal that some of us don't think whitewalls look good on a truck. They would look particularly stupid on my truck since I still use it for hauling lumber, compost, etc. when I need to. I also don't have oak bed strips with 27 coats of varethane or whatever, but I don't think that this makes me a bad person. Just as you have your opinion, I have mine. I did say that beauty was in the eye of the beholder, and I don't think that whitewalls look right on a vehicle that was designed for work not show. I do think that whitewalls look great on a first generation corvette (esp. with a red and white paint scheme). He did ask for opinions, and my opinion is just as valid as anyone elses on this subject.

Most people in the 50's could not afford the white walls because they were new and not that popular.I don't know that I ever saw white walls on a truck back then. Most all trucks back then were used for work not show.I think I would stay with the black wall.

white walls

I thought it wouldn't hurt to put them on and see. I'm still undecided.

Thanks for everyone's opinion.

EZ,

You have a VERY nice looking truck, with or without whitewalls. If you like the WW tires, ride with pride!

I wish mine was that far done!

You should be proud.

Rob, Can’t remember if you have artillery wheels or not. If you do my vote is some kind of white wall. This will draw attention to the wheels which I think look great

I like the look of the white walls. As Kip said, it draws attention to the wheel area and seems to "set it off".

Putting wide whitewalls on the truck is a personal choice. Since my truck is Jet Black with white bumpers and grill (original), I wanted to contrast the color with the white walls. (click on my profile above to see "Dusty") I have got very favorable comments about the tires I chose for the truck, and I'm happy with them. grin

Whatever turns you on,its your truck.Back when those trucks were new, whitewalls were an option that many people went with to dress up their cars and trucks.Although they might not be exactly correct for your truck they were pretty much period correct.
