I now of a guy that put them on a '49 1 ton, they didn't look right. Then he pet a set of Goodyear blackwall mud grips on it, there were more positive remarks on it with those tires.

As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I wouldn't put white walls on a truck of any size. I just think they lookout of place on a vehicle that was designed for hauling, towing, camping, etc.

I put an ad in the paper for firestone tires. I received a call last nite from a guy who has what I want except there wide white walls on rims for $300.canadian. So the price is right, but the look is wrong! Thanks for your opinions.
I'll keep looking! Universal tire looks very promising!

I think that you should go with some working truck tires. Either a good set of pavement pounders or my personal favorite a knobby set of farm/mud tires. I really like the look of the old school style off road tires, espescially on your year of truck. Personally I would add some attitude with the mud tires and leave the white walls to the show trucks. Either way though, do what you want, my opinion is exactly that, mine. The beauty of free thought and action is doing what you want to.

Excuse the spelling, or maybe I should say the mis-spelling. Pebble Beach is one of several Concourse DeElegance shows where antique vehicles are judged and awarded points on originality and quality. Being "correct" for the year/car is paramount. If a car normally came from the factory with overspray in a certain area and your restoration didn't have the correct amount of overspray in those areas you would be penalized. If, in this case, wide whitewalls weren't offered from the factory you would lose points in the judging if your truck had wide whitewalls. If you ever hear someone refer to a "high point" car, that is what they are referring to, a car of extremely high quality and originality.

Apparently not at the old Ford school.

That’s the beauty of these forums, were all entitled to our own opinion. Mine happens to be both, but for those of you who feel something is "GAY" because its not your personal preference is being small minded. That’s like calling someone who only likes black rugged terrain tires a "redneck" which would also be an unfair judgment. I have had both styles of trucks and do not consider myself on one or the other side of the fence and despite the fact that apologies were offered for a poor choice of words, doesn’t make using those words acceptable. People will be offended. Instead of apologizing ...... make a better choice in the first place. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 49 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 49 | Take a look at my '51 3/4 ton with white walls. 46IP--It's been a long time since I've seen a grain gate cut into a pickup tailgate. That was when pickups were made to WORK! Do you want your truck to stand out a bit or look like every other truck? And like they said, if you don't like em, you can remount them with the white walls on the inside. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 688 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 688 | I am a white wall fan, see my link to the 59 Apache.

I am sure these same guys would hate my truck's colour, the selection of visor and would want to junk the 216 and replace it with something larger.
However, I am also sure, if these same fellows were to meet me and drive my truck for awhile, their opinions would change.
I receive a lot more positive comments then negative ones regarding my truck and tires.

Your truck is totally awesome looking, the visor is awesome, I truly like the color, and I commend you for keeping the 216. The whitewalls look very good, no kidding. Nevertheless if it was my truck I would replace them immediately.

They would look particularly stupid on my truck since I still use it for hauling lumber, compost, etc. when I need to. I also don't have oak bed strips with 27 coats of varethane or whatever, but I don't think that this makes me a bad person. Just as you have your opinion, I have mine. I did say that beauty was in the eye of the beholder, and I don't think that whitewalls look right on a vehicle that was designed for work not show. I do think that whitewalls look great on a first generation corvette (esp. with a red and white paint scheme). He did ask for opinions, and my opinion is just as valid as anyone elses on this subject.
