I have been reading here for a while and thought I should post a link to pictures of my 1951 truck.

Nice looking ride, Todd!

Body looks really straight! It should be a snap to get that looking cherry!

How does that old babbit pounding 235 run?

I hope you keep that lettering as well. You can tape it and paint it, or get a sign guy to redo them.

Great truck. Really great sign. You need to go to Roanoke, Alabama with it. Small little country town with nice folks. Not sure if that company is still there or not. It has been about 5 years since I went through.Used to live near there. Good Luck.
Just checked . They are still around.

Judging from the ages of the "Average Age" string, not many of us remember a phone number like that. For sure keep the sign.

With all the ID on the engine showing, would it be a 261? Captains bars and all?

With the serial on the engine being LAQ, I thought it was a 1953 babbit pounding 235 (which, now that I think about it, would be a full pressure oiler out of a car...)

Upon a "more detailed" cursory inspection, I am under the impression that it's a 235.

But according to this there was an engine that started with LAQ that was used for something that the guy who did the page doesn't know about. Did they make 261's in 1953?

I would keep the body of the truck as is. Keep the power train running good and drive it.

That a little peice of history you very rarely see.

Thanks for all the messages. I have not settled on how to finish the truck. Right not I want to get it running. It was in the posession of Dunn Chevrolet until November 2005 I am told. I spoke to Mr. Dunn. It changed hands twice? I bought it from the second fellow on ebay. I had to call Mr Dunn and get a letter from him when trying to get it titled in Pennsylvania. His father had a small collection of cars as well that I am told he sold off.

I believe that it still has the same oil and coolant in it from when it was last tagged in 1976. The PO ran it and it ran to get on the truck. I have tried to start it, but it will barely turn over. It turns very very slowly, like a battery that is almost dead. I bought a new 6 volt battery and it didn't help. So I am planning to change the fluids, rewire it, figure out where all the brake fluid leaked out and maybe rebuild the starter. I will probably convert it to 12 volt. If I get all that done, I will probably drive it as-is for a little while and think about my options. I will keep it garaged in the mean time.

I think that the motor is a 235 out of a 53 passenger car or so I am told. The head appears to be newer as in 54-56ish. I am going to try to dig up the casting numbers.
