I added a lot of color ,some flames, pinstripes and a hula dancer to give my 66 a better outward apearance.I was happy to be makeing my first road trip memorial day weekend.Didnt get 20 miles on the freeway and got pulled over because he couldn see my licence plate.Like most vintage vehicles its atached to the taillight. He was looking on the bumper and even told me i should put it there. We chatted a bit and then he tells me that the old r.v.s are profiled as mobile meth labs.If i didnt want to be noticed id have left it the way it was when i got it and not have tryed to make it stand out.The trip went well except we had to spend the first night campted at an advace auto after the alternator went south. What do ya think of my rattle can job?Ron.

Looks like a nice rig. Glad to see you're using it.

I hadn't heard about old campers being targeted. Thanks for the warning. My '59 camper doesn't see the highway so I should be safe there. We have a later model 5th wheel we use now.

Mine too, with flames and loud pipes.I had a cop pull me over for no seat belt once, had to explain the law on old vehicles to him. He gave me a ticket anyway. I phoned the court and they checked and threw it out.

I keep a copy of the law in my 64 so I can show it to the fuzz-1971 was the seatbelt year for trucks in Ark, cars 68-up. the license plate thing is a nothing but an excuse to pull you over.brian

outrunem?....did onece but that was with a 69 roadrunner. The flames are decals from advance auto. There was only one other car on the road at the time so i supose i was an easy target.I was a little ****** when he said i was targeted as a drug lab.I told him he could
searh any thing he wanted and that i only smoked ciggarets and trout. He asked me how far i was going and not to be surprised if i get pulled over another 5 times.600 mile round trip and that was the only cop that bothered me.

The seatbelt law "grandfather clause" cutoff is 1965 in Michigan. (257.710e, btw)

But, if they're installed, you have to use them.

And, I might add, trying to outrun a cop is BAD news, Joker. I hear that they shoot people for doing that in Texas. grin

Slowrider,
I think cigaretts are illegal here in California. Given our state legislature, you're probably better off getting caught with a Meth Lab.

Hey Slow-ride,
"in the song stylings of Billy Joel"

Dont go changing (the bolt) to try to please the PD. You never really tried before....

They just want pleasant conversation
and to chase the occasional speeding cab....

your not speeding your not smoking...
your driving a mobile meth lab. grin

I've been let go with nothing or a warning more times than getting a ticket. Usually if you play it cool and don't give too much argument, you won't get a ticket or they will drop the speed if caught for speeding. As a general rule, I just tell them the truth and don't argue with them. I usually do OK. I usually know when I deserve a ticket too.

in our county things are a little defferent cops are always in court for doing something bad and its not just my bad time a number of people i know have also had bad times with them our county has many lawsuites going in todays paper they just canned another cop for using undo force with people i agree it would be nice if things changed i used to look up to cops guess if the bad ones keep getting canned things may change

I look at like this ,theres good and bad in every proffesion. What i dont like is being profiled because i have a love for vintage vehicles.Iam always courtieous when stoped. Most are friendly, but ocaisanly you get a hardball thats probably had a bad day and trying to make quota.

I have never been pulled over in my old stuff. I drove old black truck around for a month w/o exhaust-it was rotted off below the cab. never got so much as a second look. I went everywhere in it. I swear they look the other way when I drive past. brian
