When you pump the brakes, does the pedal come back?
If not, then check your brake lines. Verify that all of your connections are tight and you don't have brake fluid leaking from a line break somewhere. Then go ahead and rebleed your brakes. You should be golden. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 975 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 975 | Jim,
Your post says they adjusted them all the way out to the point where they rubbed. How about to the point where they drag or decrease the ability of the wheel to turn?
Does the master cylinder always need fluid? How about a puddle of brake fluid on the floor? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2005 Posts: 355 Member | | Member Joined: Feb 2005 Posts: 355 | Do you know if they replaced your fluid with DOT 3 or did somebody talk you into DOT 5? If they used DOT 5 you could need to drain the system again, replace parts, and start over with DOT 3. (It's a stretch, I know.)
Otherwise, it sounds like you have a leak. If you leave it parked for a day or so, you should see it pooling on the garage floor. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | Make shure you have a little free play before the pedal starts pushing the master cyl. piston. It must come all the way back. If thats ok you still have air in the system or got a defective master cylinder. I have never used them but something like this would be a good place for the bleeders with check valves. I think they call them Speedy- bleeders. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Are you running a factory setup, drums all the way around or do you have power brake with disc on the front? Did the pedal go to the floor before you took it to the shop? You could pull one of the drums off and see if the wheel cylinder moves when you step on it.

If you do the rear of the master cylinder will be wet right at the point where the plunger meets the master cylinder.
Also be sure the bore size of the new master is the same or larger than the bore size of the wheel cylinders. If not the wheel cylinders will be robbed of fluid before they can expand enough to make proper contact.

These things are put together by human beings and ....., well you know the rest of the story. The wrong cup and piston would give you a lot of trouble. A defective residual valve would allow air in through the wheel cylinders when the pedal is fully released. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 324 Member | | Member Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 324 | sounds a lot like air in the system. bleed the brakes properly, and if that is not the problem, redo the master cyl.
