my 39 1.5 ton needs turn signals. I don't want to drill holes in the fenders and put round signals like in my 53. I don't like the ones jim carter has that go on the fenders like a car.

My body guy is suggesting a set of clearance lights turned sideways with dual filaments just under the headlights on the radiator housing. I think that idea is okay, but any other suggestions are appreciated.

New paint next week and I'll post pics.

Are you running 6 or 12 V? If you are running 12, you can hide some of those small LED's almost anywhere and they are still bright enough to see.

My Suburban had those clearance lights on it as turnsignals when I got it. I thought they looked great!

Do you have parking lights?

Put a double poled socket in and use dual fillament bulbs.

Get a turn signal arm from an old truck in a bone yard (or a kit) and wire it up.

Instant turn signals.

If you want to cop out and do easy rear turn signal lights (which is what I plan to do), go for the clearance lights and put them on the bed below the tailgate.

Even easier is to just use the parking lights for turn signals. No state that I know of requires parking lights so unless you leave it setting on the shoulder of the road or like to sit on the porch and watch the grill glow, what good are they? It's never enforced but in many states it's actually illegal to drive on the road with just parking lights. Just cut and cap the park light wire and splice in the one from the turn signal switch. Use the brightest(usually biggest) bulb you have room for.

Good ideas, but there are no parking lights on a 39. That's why I need some suggestions.

Everything in the rear is perfect, it has a set of OTR lights and they work great.

It had some honda motorcycle lights on the front previously. I tried a set of harley bullet lights and they looked okay, but not great as the radiator shell has an angle.

Just a thought. Have you seen these? You can hide the turn signal bulb in the headlight. You might need another style headlight lens though.

My vote would be for the headlights with the turn signals built in.

The '40 GMC i'm parting out has the big round deals mounted to the fender, but it looks like they at one point had cab marker lights on there.

My second choice would be to fender mount some cab marker lights.. but if you want to keep from putting extra holes in the truck, those Chev of the 40's lights would be the way to go.

I bought the lights from Chevs of the 40s or whatever their hot rod supply sister company is called. $180 + $18 for a flasher for them seemed like too much, but I did it anyway.

I found some similar tri bar with turn signal lights on ebay for $50, but the seller didn't take paypal and didn't return emails even though they had 20 listings, I wasn't comfortable.

When I purchased them via internet for the discount they were on back order like everything else. Kristen at Cot40s said she personally sells 2 sets a day. I got them a couple weeks later and they are plastic. I was a little concerned.

They are installed and the turn signal is hooked up. The parking light function makes the turn signal a little hard to see during the day, so I left it unhooked.

They sure clean up the front on a big art deco, $200 well spent. Will post pics when the painter finally delivers the truck.

Put your tail light or blinker in the holes on both sides in your box. You know, the top ridge of the box people usually put round chrome plugs in.

I have run for years a set of dual filimant clearance lights and used one filiment as a turn/brake light and the other as a stop lamp.
I also have a set of amber ones on the side running board as side marker and blinker lights

For the 47 onward trucks I think the parklight conversion works well.

I'm a big fan of converting your headlights to the brighter modern non-sealed h-4 style (bulb). I may even go the next step and upgrade to HID/XENON, which just requires the addition of some electronics in the headlight wiring and runs about $150-$200 for the kit on e-bay.

Lots of the vendors carry the headlight lens and bulb kit to convert from sealed beam to replacable bulb, I've even seen them at various FLAPS, like autozone/checker...

I have gotten sets for several cars on E-bay for less than FLAPS/Vendor prices and they have all come with an extra bulb in them for the turn signal.
