For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 1 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 1 | My cousin has a 1950 which he bought in Arkansaw in 1972. It was repainted in 75 and has been stored in his garage since 77. It's all original except for the non running 216 with a 3 on the tree. This will be my first bolt and I want to be fair to him. I also will need to truck it from Johnstown.pa to NH. Thanks for any ideas. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 4,066 Bolter | | Bolter Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 4,066 | really hard to say, just depends on what the buyer wants to give... how is the body, does it have rust and so forth,,,,,,my guess which is probably incorrect would be 500 to 1500 or so. I am sure more will chime in later,,, welcome to the bolt...Fred Redryder pixMy HotrodA veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard, or reserve - is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to The 'United States of America', for an amount of "up to and including my life."I am fighting cancer and I am winning the fight | Pain is part of life; misery is an option. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 90 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 90 | Shorty, just food for thought, but I bought my 48, in about the same condition for $100.00, but my buddy was in a jam with the county, and he had to clean up his property. It has a 235 (that's froze up). I like to offer low and haggle. I aired up the tires, bled the brakes, and drove it till I busted the torque tube joint.. then I sold it on eBay for $1,000.
Value is really based on condition and market. In my area, a solid 40's thru '50's truck that runs is worth anywhere between $300 and $1000.
In other areas, where the trucks are harder to come by, or are all rusted out because of humidity and salted roads, the price can climb as high as $2000+ for a unrestored, in decent condition solid truck.
Hell, i've heard of people paying upwards of $1000 just for a solid 1950 cab!
an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.

I've had 3 notes left on my windshield offering to buy my truck in 2 weeks. In the paper I saw 2 same-age trucks in worse condition for $5500 yet I found mine in North-central California for under $1000. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 738 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 738 | it is a very subjective thing. in part it is what you want to pay, along with what he wants to make. easiest thing to do, espescially with family, is just to sit down and see what you two can come up with.

Value of these trucks are difficult to determine and it usually ends up that everybody wins. For instance,if you pay him what he gave for the truck he will be happy and you cant lose money because someone will gladly pay you that for the truck. I know I have been offered a lot more for my trucks than I gave for them but they are not for sale because I enjoy them so much, that is unless I could get Barret-Jackson prices for them!!Ha,Ha Good luck,Hobert

Now it is sitting in back of my garage. Hope to get it going by next year. It is the next project in the line of several. James

Last year I bought a pair of perfect original front fenders for $400.00 blasted and primed. I see running generally stock and unrestored trucks here in the paper going for $2,500.00 to $8,000.00 depending on condition. The rusted and/or basket cases are going for $400.00 to a grand. (I have a friend here that buys these trucks and easily parts them out for at least hundreds if not thousands of dollars worth of parts. The sum is really worth more than the whole.) Check your local paper and ebay locally and see what they are going for. Good sheetmetal gets a premium. Look at the standard rot out places, cab corners, cowls, etc. Finally, being family and all, no matter what the price the issue will be debated forever, "you know I paid too much for that truck" "b.s. I practically gave it to you." I offered him 500 more than he gave and he laughed at me. It was not beat up either. That said I usually look at it this way. How many dollars will it take to get it running and driveable. Then if its more than I would be willing to pay for a running vehicle I walk away. I know we all do it for the love of the hobby and personal satisfaction because we love these old trucks. BUT if it doesn't bother you to buy one already running you can buy an older restoration for the fraction of the money and lot less headache than doing it all yourself. Personally I like to do it all, or all I can so that it is MY truck. But after restoring or resurrecting a couple I think a man can buy one already to go and still stand in the circles and talk trash about his accomplishments. In the end, follow your heart which I know is to put it on the road. Go for it.....I did once and six years later I finally got to drive it. Would I change anything...not really. | | |
