O K I am finally going to get the concrete poured for my new shop tomorrow. The weather has not been cooperating. The building will be delivered Monday. I looked at a lot of building kits before I bought this one. I am going for strength over cheap because I have been through two tornados. I will update when I start putting this all togeather. It will take a while because I work at my business five days a week.

Bullet: I'm looking to add a workshop garage also, I'd be interested, if you were willing to share, what/why you ended up buying. I thought modular,pre-built or a kit would be a good option, but I'm having trouble finding good sources.

I'm getting a 30x50 pole building but they put the building up first then pour the concrete. I thought this sounded a little backwards. the reason is the county requires 18" diameter holes for the poles and that would cause them to infringe on the floor area.

You will also be able to control the curing speed of your concrete. It will dry a lot harder with less chances of cracking not being exposed while drying. You basically want it to dry slow.

I went with a pole barn that I finished off myself. I had the Company build the basic barn and after the final inspection, I walled off a third of it, poured the concrete 7 inches thick with 1/2 inch rebar, put in eight inches of insulation and a furnace to work year round with. It's home away from home with a 4 speaker stereo and 27" TV with all of the movie channels. Only need the house to shower in and to sleep (and to "see" the wife),

Just finishing a 30x40 block building with a suspended ceiling(did ceiling myself..and wiring). I checked around and after putting in most of the stuff the pole/metal buildings don't come with I found I came out much better dollar wise. I think the big factor to most of us is how much we can do ourselves to save money. No one usually mentions money here but with the 2x4 lay in lights, accoustical ceiling (insulated), 2 big garage doors(and intrance door), work benches and shelves built and covered with galvanized metal, air lines piped and a good size concrete area outside the shop for a total bill around 16-17K. Heck, I've waited so long I even painted the floor. Was I dreaming or will you have more/less in you metal or Pole buildings when they are COMPLETE?? Biggest chunk was the concrete which is going up 6 more dollars a yard in January to $80 a yard. (and the two truck loads of rock dust to take care of the elevation!) I also suspect building codes and cost of material in our respective locations has a lot to do with it?

My wife wants a pool... I want a shop... don't have the funds for both. What to do?

Get the pool...when she gets tired of it in 6 months you can fill it in and pour a slab over it for your shop.

Been there with the pool, but then I'm in WA. We used the hot tub portion more than the pool. Too darn much cleaning, etc. You know the difference between a pool and a boat? You can sell the boat.

The company I work for is in the real estate appraisal business. We often decrease the market value of a home if it has a pool. You could build a shop over a pool; you would have a great pit for working under the truck.

I bought a 30 x 40 metal building kit here locally, it was a bolt together. The main problem I had was the concrete contractor made my building 2" too short on one side so he had to go back and pour a ledge with rebar and the whole thing , I was ready to kill him before it was all over, seems his dopehead son ended up being the one who laid it out.[Should have done it myself]. All in all it went pretty well after that incident and I am enjoying it very much , but as you will here from most guys here "My shop still isn't big enough".

I got my building from World Wide Building Corp. in Peculier Missouri. I looked at a lot of others but this one looked the strongest. I dont know how it stacks up money wise. I built a pole building about twenty five years ago and now I am getting some rotting problems. I guess it should'nt matter since I am 65 years old but I like to think I am building for the future as well as for myself.

Update. I got my building unloaded and put where I want it. Now I have the shingles. No fun. I have them in my ear, face, and mouth. Doc says it can last four to six weeks. Oh well, I am getting a lot of rest.

I feel for you, I had shingles when I was 20, wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy. Put me down for over a month, get well soon. Brian

I was wondering what ole bullet meant when he said he had the shingles. Why does he need shingles to put on top of a metal building? Get well soon my friend and let us know how the building turns out.

I have had my foot in my mouth a lot of times but never shingles.I have wondered why they call them that but it feels like I have splinters in my teeth. The pain is not unbearable but it never stops. I have been hurt worse so I know I will survive. I have my building all put where I want and my son in law tarped it down for me so I will just have to be patient. My kids are good to help me when I need it.
