Cash deal. Guy didn't even want to test drive it. Took one look. That was it. I hated to see him drive it away.... Anyone know of any old trucks out there that need a new home?

I think I ripped myself off by capping the bid.
Who knows how much higher it would have gone.
The guy wired me the money and it's been over a month and the car is still in my garage.
I'm sad when I think about it --- but happy I got paid -- but the car reminds me I sold her every time I walk by.
Ugh.
The profit off that car is helping me finish the 1950 Chevy though -- so that's one good thing. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 1,552 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 1,552 | Sorry to hear about your misfortune. In 1988, I had my '66, C-10 stolen from a nice area in Mission, KS. She was parked between a late model Alfa and a BMW. Neither of the cars were more that 2-3 years old. The sad thing is I had just restored her a few months earlier while taking an auto body course in college.
I felt like I lost my best friend when I came out early one Saturday morning and she was gone. Even worse, the police found her a few days later and I had to go to the impound yard and identify my old truck. What a shame. The thiefs just tore that thing apart. There was nothing left. Not only that, but the insurance company told me she wasn't worth $100.00 the way she sat.
I insured that truck for $3,500.00 ($1,700.00 for what I bought her for and $1,700.00 for the materials and parts I bought fixing her up). I took the settlement from the insurance company. Even though I was a recent college graduate needing the money, I have regretted that decision ever since. All I have left are a few before and after photos.
These old trucks have a way of endearing themselves to their owners and I'm not immune to that illness. Best of luck replacing your old friend. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 230 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 230 | Jesus , you didn't mntion what ' old rusty ' was ~ ? .
I learned the hard way years ago to just say " NOT for sale ! " after some jerkoff yuppie and I got into a fight when he pulled out a wad of hunnereds , [censored] any fool can buy a better rig than I have for far lees , just go look .
There's only a couple I really _really_ regret selling and they weren't classics either , just too much $$ to pass up at the time .

It was being stored at the last of my in-laws who would keep the thing. The buyer loaded it up on his trailer but he had to wait until my wife got back with the title in her purse. I had to watch that car sit there for 1 1/2 hours. Cold turkey is much, much better.
But then I found the '48 5-window. When the Lord closes one door, he always opens another!! 1948 3/4-Ton 5-Window Flatbed Chevrolet 34 Years. Now with a '61 261, 848 head, Rochester Monojet carb, SM420 4-speed, 4.10 rear, dual reservoir MC, Bendix up front, 235/85R16 tires, 12-volt w/alternator, electric wipers and a modern radio in the glove box.

I think it's stovebolter Nick Pruneda who is not far from you in Sanger. Of course it would be a lot of work, but what else do you have to do? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...tegory=5348&item=4507803893&rd=1 | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,554 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,554 | Sold my 56 BelAir this past summer, hated to see it go,but I got a good price for it.The guy who bought it lives in the next little town up the road, and I see it at the car shows and cruisins.I always ask myself why did you sell it?However the guy who bought it takes really good care of it.He has won a couple best of show trophies with it at street rod shows.Good point it is in good hands, the guy is proud as a peacock over that car. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 1,586 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 1,586 | I don't get attached to mechanical things, just machines,I like to think.they have no feelings,no matter how much you love a truck,it'll kill ya dead in a second if ya screw up. When I sold the 261 engine in my 37 truck, some asked me if I shed a tear when it left.Actually I was happy,I got my money, the new owner was very pleased. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 1,745 Member | | Member Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 1,745 | Gee that 40 on Ebay went for 800 bucks. Seems cheap. No chassis and parts hard to see in pics though. Look like decent parts.

My standard answer is "its not for sale".....BUT "it can be bought".... Then two young men showed up with the stated price in their pocket. I then gave them 10 bucks for gas and told them I hated wasting their time. Now, couple years later, if they would just come by again.... :p | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 3,444 Moderator - The Electrical Bay | | Moderator - The Electrical Bay Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 3,444 | If someone wants to give me three times the value of The Ox, they can have it... current price is $15,000... so there is no danger in it going anywhere anytime soon.

For some reason I could not bear to part with it and phoned each of the people telling them not to come up as it was no longer for sale. They were disappointed and in fact one was irate, threatening to slander my name over all the chat lines as being a fraud. One of the others has since bought his own and we correspond regarding its rebuilding. The other is still in contact and awaiting my 'final' decision. Having an old truck is a love/hate relationship sometimes and after the time you spend together, it is a hard decision to see it go. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 332 Big Bolt Shop Curmudgeon | | Big Bolt Shop Curmudgeon Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 332 | You've all read this before, but whenever someone asks if my '46 is for sale, I tell them, "Not really, but I suppose I might sell it."
When they ask, "How much?" I just tell them, "Oh, 'bout 6.3 million."

This isn't quite as bad as it sounds, because we had 2 67 Camaros...a base model Sport Coupe and an RS/SS. We sold the Sport Coupe and still have the RS/SS. But I'd built it as a gift for my wife and it was hard to see it go.
It was a fine running car (355 twin-four, TH700 trans) and its only real shortcoming was the cheap paint job that the previous owner had put on it. (I had planned to do a complete stripping of the paint and put some nice new stuff on there...but that ol opening of the chest kinda put a damper on the projects for this year.) I got what I asked for it, but darn it, it was still hard to let go.
Seems that there are some cars/trucks that I don't mind selling (we just had to trade my wife's 95 Blazer in cuz the front end was shot...along with a bunch of other problem...I didn't mind seeing that one go at all) and some that I'm really attached to. I've got a 63 Nova that I haven't driven for 18 months, but I'll give that up when they pry it from my cold, dead hands. Same goes for my old Ugly Truck, a 64 C10. | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 709 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2001 Posts: 709 | When asked how much I'd sell the 59 for I say "Make me an offer". To date I haven't gotten one offer. But I am seriously considering putting it on the block.

I have been driving a company truck for a few years now and never drove the Silverado but a few miles maybe every other week. The bad GM paint started peeling off, tires went down, etc. I let her go and when the man drove off with it I said what have I done. I love that truck. I always wanted a '63-'66 though and one of my co-workers had just restored his Dad's old '63 SB,Fleetside. He and his wife split and he sold it to me. I came real close a few months back selling it as I needed a work truck not a toy, but every time I looked at it I just couldn't do it. I talked the wife into letting me take it a few steps further and modernize the running works and brakes. She won't admit it but she starting to like it too. She still calls it a death trap. She says she won't ride in it unless I get shoulder belts. Sure the new ones are quieter and have tons of creature comforts but there's nothing like the classic styling and feeling you get from driving a classic Chevy down the road.

I mean all I would need to sell my truck is, well let see...... There is the Loan on my house, I would need to buy my Wife a new car, then I have to figure college for my 2 kids, of course there is the issue of retirement.....
Ok so Glen's figures are a little on the low side for me. A cool 10 million and it's all yours!

I put my 38 up once, fellow came to look at it and it decided not to start. 5 minutes after he left it started with no tinkering at all. Decided it must not want to leave me. He put more work into it than I did. It was a great learning experience for him. And frankly, we never would have had the opportunity to have so much fun with that old truck without all the friendly advice we got right here. Thanks guys!

My twins are 8 years old, but I am sure that had nothing to do with it. I used to say, I will only sell it if I can get $10K for it. But, I can't put it up for sale because it is too dirty. Now that I waited 8 years nobody will pay me $10K so I guess I am safe. Plus the girls want to use it now too. I am now looking at my 54 half ton wondering if it will tow 4000 lbs.
