2006 - The Second Annual Stovebolt Reunion in Kansas City (MO)
Official title - wink

Here is the Events page that goes with this year. There is a Facebook page for the Genuine Chevy GMC Truck Club of Kansas City but I couldn't really find my way around it. At least not for the old stuff. Let's face it, 2006 is pretty old now. dang

A few things of note, Joker's picture link worked and it was a whole web page about Red Ryder. I had to download all of it and it's on our server. So, all of his links work from his page.

I had to remove the link for 2006 KC Photobucket since they are not there. We do have 2007, so stayed tuned for that (next week).

If anyone has some pictures from 2006, and / or comments from that year, please feel free to post. I know there are a few comments I have come across that I'll try to get in here.

It dawned on me, after that event, we had so much increased activity on the site, it got decidedly busier! grin

Another thing, in piecing it together, Mongo's got a Facebook page also that's a real hoot.

Besides the pictures in the Events page, here are some of the pictures from that year.

I have the descriptions of what's going on with the images themselves.

Another prize given by us to Xander Mosely (Mongo's son) for the "youngest Bolter" -- he was two at the time. The AD truck in the back is one of Mongo's Stovebolt, "Mongo's Garage" is lettered on the door ... need to zoom in.

Whoa -- that's a trip down memory lane. Everyone looks younger ...

A fun weekend -- Peggy's and my 1st trip to KC and the first time to meet a bunch of folks who have since become old and dear friends. My best memory is of Fatweed and his bird on the mirror -- it was a great look (fake pidgeon, as I recall). He was a very nice man and fun to be around. I think we all miss him.

It was also the first time to meet Cletis and June in person -- another person we miss dearly around here.

I think that was also the weekend when a lot of people were getting Scott Ward and I confused ... probably wearing each other's name tag didn't help ... We've done that every time since wink

Then there was the big tour of Jim Carter's -- what a cool place! I think everyone came out of there with something from the used parts basement ... Talk about a "treasure Room."

A happy, fun weekend!

Here's a good start with first image of "The Group." If you want to know who who in the picture, check it out here. You can mouse-over the faces for the screen names.

I'll add more images since I want to add as many details and I can find. If you can add more, please post. laalaa

Heard from George "Wrenchbender Ret." As many of you know, he's still active on Stovebolt, checking in "about three times a day!"

I don't think we had official t-shirts this year. On the images, it does look that a few people had some Stovebolt t-shirts from the early Hoo-ya shoppe. I'm not real sure, but it looks like John's shirt and mine are "Real Trucks Rock" or "Stovebolts Rule." I remember the "red" on a "black shirt" but I can't find the exact image.

This group is some trucks! Sorry not many since those are somewhere out there. Hoping some folks can dig some up.

First picture is fatweed looking at Joe Hand's 1937. Here's Joe's Gallery page, "1937 Chevy Inline-powered Streetrod."

The next picture (shown several times wink ) is "The Mongo's Garage Tow/Recovery Rig" -- 1953 Chevy 6400 2-Ton. Steve had a great update on his Gallery page that talks about getting ready for the Reunion. What a transformation the Big Bolt, getting ready for the big show. He has the before and after pictures on his page there.

He also did an article for the September 2006 News page.

"What a great turnout and great time at the "All Truck Nationals" in Kansas City Well, this was a special weekend to say the least. We had over 25 Stovebolters coming from near and fairly far to meet face-to-face. It certainly felt like "old home week" as we got a chance to better know our fellow wrenchers."

Next picture is looking inside Tom "235 Fat Fenders" Ryan's engine. It's a 1953 Chevy 3100. He has the
the details on his Gallery page. A fun write-up with good pictures.

"You folks have been a big help in having this web sight and I am glad I found it many years ago. I am also grateful for the trophies that you folks bestowed upon me at last years truck meet in Kansas City. They now proudly hang in the garage next to the flyer. I hope that I can make that K.C. run.

American Classics had donated to the site in 2005 but didn't get really involved until 2007. Mongo made up the name tags for the event. Many of the prized were donated. Mongo and Jim Carter donated some good stuff.

The prize toss will be next. shake

Here's the prize pictures! blush

Mongo made some super-duper neato Stovebolt trophies and many other prizes were donated. Some of our crew got trophies from the sponsors! Way to go! Joe H won Best of Make (1937 Chevy). Arch (56 pickup) Oetken also got one. Joker got two: "One [was] for distance and the other was a third place for 1950 - 1959 truck stock. I'm not sure why they had stock on it but the judges marked the entry. There were three of them looking at the truck. I guess it looked stock -- engine looked stock without all those carbs some have I don't know -- I just drive em."

Here's a picture of Fred's Granddaughters with his trophies!

Here's our photos:

First image below is a look at the prize table. You can see the huge stash of goodies and the nice Chevrolet and GMC moon hub caps. In that photo it looks like George "Wrenchbender Ret" Capito was first up for a prize. That's John, George and Sherry Ward (Scott "48bigtrucks" Ward's fun, smart, sweet and beautiful wife grin ).

Second picture is Cletis rummaging thru the box of assorted give aways. In that photo is John, Sherry, Cletis and Craig "revoh" Hover.

Photo #3, Mongo gets into the act and takes over the presentations. shake

Photo #4 shows Gary (fatweed) Nesser is getting the moon handed to him by Mongo. wink

Next photo (#5), Joe Hand gets a prize from Mongo. Good grip-n-grin photo.

Photo #6 shows Mongo giving a moon to Tom (235 Fatfenders) Ryan. John in the back with a thumbs up.

Photo #7 is a better picture of the moons with 235 Fatfenders, fatweed, John and Mongo.

Last of this group in Arch (56 pickup) Oetken with a GMC moon presented by Mongo. John still with the thumbs up but he's moved to the front.

The next batch of images is John's famous "prize toss." The "prize toss" was John's idea instead of a Chinese gift exchange. This was something we did every year after that and carried over to Homecoming. thumbs_up

#9 The photo line up: John about to start "passing" out some prizes.

#10 Same ... that's Joe (Toomany2count) Weimer on the right with Ray (Oehm Jr 46) Oehm behind him.

#11 Here's a throw with Joe Hand catching.

That takes care of the images I have come across in our hard drive. If more show up in various places, I'll post them.

Or, if any other info surfaces, I'll add it in. We may have some in various shoe boxes. (We have a trunk full of photos!)

(We had a lightening strike twice ... one at each house in Southern MD. The computer was fried the first time but we were able to have some of the hard drive restored. It wasn't easy to sort thru the data the computer company sent back. We did our best. I still have a "folder" that I rummage thru every now and then restoring stuff that was missing. Who knows, some may turn up there.)

Please feel free to comment. I have a story to go along with our first trip to Kansas City. But not today. wink

Plus, I think his wife was taking the photos. (Notice the people are looking down rather than across. Must be someone ... ah, short. wink )

Last entry by me.

The is the page from the September News.

()()()()()()()()()())()

And a personal story about the 2006 Reunion. When I was making the reservations to fly, I used Cheap Tickets to get some idea of where and when -- we have three airports we can fly out of. Once I got it figured, I used our "flyer miles" from our credit union. All good for a trip to Kansas City, Kansas. Put in for a rental car at the airport also.

OOOPPPPPPPSSSSSSSSS ... what is Kansas City doing in MISSOURI??? headscratch

I freaked out a little. Well, no, A LOT. dang

Obviously, I got it figured out. Need to slow down. nono

I had done something similar on a road trip from Baltimore MD to Athens. Well, the Athens I knew was in Alabama, a familiar town. OOOPPPPPPPPPPPPPSSSSS. We needed to be in Athens GEORGIA. That was a long night ... we had to be there in the morning.

Crazy. And I'm good with road maps. headscratch

not me
