I recently acquired a 1950 1 & 1/2 dual rear wheel big bolt in too good a condition to do anything but fix up a little and drive. It looks like it had a stake bed on it at one point. It was used the last number of years as a water tanker. It had nothing on it when I got it.

Does anyone have a source for diagrams and pictures of a period bed for this truck. I would like to get it close to "as deivered" condition as possible. Different theme beds are OK. Also factory, aftermarket or custom OK.

This may not be what you are thinking of, but If you look in the Gallery under 55.1st big bolts, you will see my 4400.

It had an old Ford flatbed on it when I got it, and I built a new 12' bed for it soon after.

I purchased rails, corners, stake pockets and cross rails separately from a manufacturer in Los Angeles. To try and give it the authentic look, I ordered "round" corners...they almost look original.

The factory bed had no headboard (I think), but I built one for mine. Granted, this doesn't look entirely stock, but gives you some ideas of what is out there.

The outfit in L.A., Fleming Metal will punch the side rails for stake pockets wherever you want. They also supply the inner pocket itself, AND stakes of varying lengths.

This stuff was surprisingly affordable, but I am closer to them than you are from a freight standpoint.

You may want to check out my 53 3/4 ton FACTORY stakebed in the gallery. Prev. owner cut off the top row of boards but what's there was the read deal.

Trust me !, The Factory Stake Bed, looked like the picture I posted earlier. I've owned 3 of them.

Looking for a stake body too. It'd be helpful to know the dimensions? Did they come in different lengths, which I guess would depend upon the wheel base. For '48 2t. loadmasters, what were the w.b.'s? I'm going to check out a local steel fabricator that makes dump bodies to see if anyone who bought one pulled his stake body.

Jim???? if you're still looking for a bed?? i have a AD chassis with an original bed on it (with extention) that was converted into a hay wagon.... The deck boards are toast...but if you want to come get the rails???? you can have them

rev383, Thanks guy, but about how far past the rear axle should the body extend?

Pete: the body length is dependant upon the wheelbase and the C/A (cab to axle). Measure it and I'll give you the proper body length.
