Hi everyone. Wanted to share my new purchase & learn about big bolts. Gave a new home to a 53 Chevy 4400 rack body. She is as old as I am but shows her age better. Has great patina that I don't plan on removing and painting. The stake bed looks to be original, wood deck rotted but metal strip still in tack. Body has only two rot holes, drives cab corner, sheet metal riveted over quite a while ago & section of floor in front of battery box. Run & drives doesn't stop. Master cylinder frozen & not sure about the rest of the brake system. Mice got into the seat & headliner, need replacing & may see about just polishing the interior to clean it up. no plans to repaint. Going for the aged look. Just plan to get her mechanically sound & have fun driving. Also we have a wedding venue & will make a great looking lawn ornament to go a long with my 56 Case 311B tractor.

Welcome to the Stovebolt page....and remember, your not the only one "olderthandirt smile

Congrats on what sounds like a good buy and love it that you will maintain the truck for what it was intended to be. Not many of us run up on vheicles that haven't already been stripped of the good stuff or just plain rusted away.
Be sure to stop by the Big Bolts forum and introduce yourself to those guys and I am sure they can help with any questions you may have. We believer "Knowledge is the Best Resource" and there is plenty of it here.
Thanks for dropping in at the welcome centre.

Shoot, 63 is middle aged around here wink Always good to have another Mainer on board (I claim Kennebec County, or at least that's what my DD214 says is my Home of Record). These old trucks are very popular props for photos these days so I'm sure yours will do quite well.

Welcome to the site. Imagine that, finding mice in the headliner and seat. You're not in the minority, quite common actually. Sounds like a good plan you have, hope you can stay with it and get her going again. Be sure to check in if you need anything. Good luck!

Welcome! My 53 1 ton is a few years younger than I am, but I sometimes feel like I am lots older than I am. They say you're only as old as you feel. This morning that would have made me about 105. The important thing to remember that this is a fun project, that you are doing it because you enjoy it. I keep telling myself that as I'm lying in the dirt with rust and crud falling in my face and blood leaking from my knuckles.

I am currently digging back in to a 1953 3800 (one ton) with a nine foot bed. I've owned it since 1979, and drove it until 1982 (or so). My wife got me involved in restoring it back in 2002, got the body removed and the frame redone, then things came up. Now I am retired and starting again. If anyone is interested I have photos on Imagur ( https://timwhiteblues.imgur.com/ ). I live way back in the woods in the Ozarks on 40 acres at the end of a 2 1/2 mile private road.
