That area is called the vally and its hotter than hell there when the engine is running that's why the fuel injection harness cooked along with anything else in that area.
The last V12's off the production line were the 6.0 liter units with revised ignition and fuel injection systems they had a cover over that area if my memory serves me well I have gone back and forth with the idea of fitting one would make a cool feature that I could dress up the engine.
