Compare the weight of your truck to a modern truck with the same type suspension and you will see why the new ones ride better. Yours will carry the same load weight but total truck weight is a lot less.
Mine rides better with teflon liner in the leaf springs, modern soft tube shocks, and factory seat.
Add sand bags to the bed and see how it rides.
