Just bought the truck so don't know about the points. But, the wire that goes from my altnernator to my ignition switch goes through the resistor. So doesn't seem to be bypassing it.
I did not find another wire that goes to the battery from the alternator. I am going out now to look. Could it run without that wire? It would explain the non charging.
Also the PO said doing it this way he didnt have to change any bulbs or anything.
