There is no other wire. The alternator has two connections. One has a red marking +?, the other is smaller. The two are connected together with a wire. Then another wire goes to the reducer block. From there the single wire goes to the ignition switch. From the switch, two wires go the the starter and the third to the + on the coil.

The trucks runs great, starts easy, turns over readily.

Come on guys, I am dying here....

When I was out checking I was feeling the little jumperwire that goes from the big alternator red post to the littler spade connector on the side and the connector was loose. This might have been my problem right there. After recrimping it I was putting it back on the spade connector and touched the side of the alternator with it and got a spark. So, with the key off this wire has some juice going to it.
