I have no idea of what you are referring to by shunt. In my experience they are a resistor used to derive a 50 mV signal for instrumentation. They are rated in DC line amps anywhere from 5 to 5,000 and either 50 or 100 mV "output". They will often (the better ones do) have 4 terminals 2 big ones for the DC line and two litttle ones for the 50 mV output (often 10 32 screw)
They have no other use or control capability.
