looking hard isn't what's needed, understanding what you're looking at and whether it's right or not is ... if you have a one wire internally regulated alternator, then the regulator on the firewall is meaningless, and should have been removed .... if you killed a fully charged battery overnight, then something is obviously wired very wrong, and I'd think you're lucky the battery died before the fire started .... it's not a matter of "giving up", take it to a professional and get it done right before you hurt yourself wink
