Frank, go ahead and do a compression test, the numbers will tell the complete story. Id run it for a while with heavy wt. oil and see if it helps the smoking. How do the plugs look? My old 216 ran sweet for many years with just a hint of smoke, even had low comp. reading in a couple cyls.
