Ghost,
I have a 58 235 on my engine stand now that needs a total rebuild, cylinders bored, the works. I have considered building that motor and just dropping it in my truck but I really like the idea of an all-original (numbers matching) truck. Of course I know that you can't really have a numbers match because the vin was not stamped on anything but the body. VIN = body serial no. From my 50 Chevy Resto-pack I learned that the engine serial nos. are different for each series and assembly plant. Trans. and rear axles, too. All the numbers point to an original truck. On the otherhand my truck is really rusty and rough and not a "collector" - probably any sane man would have parted it out.
I am hoping if the smoke doesn't stop on its own that a ring and valve job will cure it. I would do that in-chassis. If it needs bored, mains, cam bearings.....I would probably not rebuild it.
