By putting the timing mark (ball or circle)on the flywheel to the pointer, you have a 50/50 chance of getting the distributor in wrong. The mark will line up when number 1 is in firing position and again when number 6 is in firing position. It is best to install the distributor with the valve cover off. If both valves at no.1 are closed you are ready to install the distributor. If one is open and both no.6 valves are closed you need to turn to the mark one more time.
