Move left to right??? are you referring to turning?(clockwise/counter clockwise)
The distributor has a hold-down bolt and keeper at the base where it goes into the engine. If the bolt is loose, the distributor will be able to be rotated left or right but it should be secured when the timing is set.(if you have points still, be sure to set the point gap or dwell (same thing) before you set the timing and secure the distributor.
