Propane is an extremely clean fuel, but you lose horsepower and mileage. This is compensated by the fact that you can run much higher compression ratios on propane. I have personal knowledge of a big block Dodge running 13.5:1 with no problem. I wouldn't think it would be worth the cost of the conversion and inspection if the vehicle wasn't a daily driver.
