Our dept tested the tanks by firing various caliber rounds into them before they agreed to convert them. Nothing pierced the tank enough to be dangerous. A lot of officers complained because they worried they would get stranded by a no start in a scary situation. I don't know if it ever happened. Once we started using dedicated CNG only cars from the manufacturer we had a lot fewer problems.
