Here's my take on this:
1) How many times have you looked at an old original truck, and saw the original 235? A LOT! How often did you think "Gee, I wouldn't buy that unless a guy put a 350 in it?" Not often, I'll bet. The quirks that these trucks have from the factory are part of the charm of the truck. Most agree that there is SOME value in "originality."
2) Now how many times have you seen a truck (or car) that someone rodded -- usually on eBay -- and thought "Now why in hell did he do the grill that way?" "What the heck was he thinking about when he did that to the doors?" That's the major downside of rodding, I think. Eventually these vehicles get sold, and they get sold for about nothing because people don't agree on what they SHOULD have done.
