The big advantages to a wire-feed welder are cleaner welds and less warpage. For welding sheet, you need to make a series of short welds with gaps, then go thru and connect the short welds. Keeps the metal cooler. It is far easier than oxy-acet. welding. At our museum, since we got a wire feed, the only things we use the torch for now is cutting, heating and silver-soldering. And if the job is too big for the wire feed, we use the stick welder. We haven't done any gas welding in several years.
