Jack the truck up so both wheels hang freely. Have someone turn the wheel while you watch each joint to see how much play there is at each one. Start with the wheel turned all the way to the left stop.

Think of a stopped freight train that starts moving. Each car will sit still until the front coupling catches and then the car behind will have to wait until it's coupling catches, etc. Your steering should have no catch-up at each joint. It should all start moving immediately.
