Yes I think you said it correctly. The confusing part of all these Harness Ammeter instructions is they call the fuse panel wire the "Solenoid Power" wire. But the other battery power source wire is obtained from the solenoid hot stud/battery cable stud. At any rate ......... One ammeter terminal is the load side. Everything is on that side. The other terminal is thru a fusible link to battery cable stud on the solenoid.

Sometimes the headlight switch is direct feed. So as far as what you said about headlight switch and ignition switch, I think wiring per harness instructions will get that done correctly. Not necessarily the 47 diagram.
