Thank you for the help. Attached is a page from the Painless wire instructions for the Instrument panel. I am going to stop trying to get the Ammeter going, and just go with a Voltmeter.

If you look at 2nd paragraph down, the Pink wire is what I am referring to for the gas gauge. The way I understand this, as well as other posts out there, this Pink wire would go to the back of the gauge where the red sticker from the factor says this wire goes to the sender in the tank. What I am missing is a power source, which I could take from the "run" position of the starter switch? I also would have to put a voltage reducer in this wire from the ignition switch as I am converting to 12 volt.
