Given the manufacturing tolerances of at least half a dozen parts,- - - - -bearings, races, hub casting, spindle, washer, nut, etc.- - - -anyone who thinks a specific procedure dreamed up by an engineer who has little, if any real hands-on experience in a shop will work in every situation must be smoking some really prime quality weed! Sometimes common sense has to take over where blindly following the manual gives less than stellar results. There's nothing whatsoever wrong with a little careful tinkering to achieve the desired results in real life.
