The 1958 service manual instructs only the 2 1/2 ton be torqued to 55 ft lbs. Ball bearing equipped hubs, back off to nearest slot alignment is obtained . Tapered roller bearings, 1/6 of a turn minimum until slot alignment is obtained.
I made the assumption that my barrel roller bearings are what is referred to as tapered roller bearings in the service manual. There is no instruction for barrel rollers, just ball and tapered bearings. If barrel roller bearings have a different procedure that could be my issue.
Hopefully I will get a chance this morning to go take some measurements.
