I see what you mean. Are you headed that direction for yours or were you just curious? It would be nice to gain that inch or two back. Wouldn't be that hard to make a block to go between the backing plate and the mount, with longer grade 8 bolts. It could even just be multiple plates in a sandwich. They could be edge or plug welded together if need be.
