OK I think I see without the bias voltage to act as a clamp removes the three stages of operation that a narrow band sensor would see going into a ECM. Thus making it act more like a wide band with variations from low to high based on lean to rich.
It is a useful setup/tool for adjustments of carb settings at idle.
