Yes, by applying some air pressure into the cyl via the spark plug hole.
There are kits available (somewhere, probably HF has one) and you can also buy the air chuck spark plug adapter to screw into the cyl hole. Can probably easily modify a compression tester to accept some air pressure also.
The air pressure will hold the valve up when you release the spring pressure.
Be advised that you want the cyl you are working on at TDC or the air pressure will spin the crank until the piston is pushed all the way down.
