Well as I see it, in the time it took a bunch of guys in Georgia to knock a ball into a hole 72 or so times... you've gone from 'reluctance to even thinking about' it to first draft mock up.
Paper templates get you where you want to got fast.
Tape , Trace, Transfer.
When I do something like this the first time I usually figure my first one's a practice piece going in.
Once I've made the first one I know how to make a better second one
