The powerglide is a good transmission, whoever worked on it obviously didn't know what they were doing. General motors made millions of them. That shop telling you to replace it with a 350 turbo is just trying to charge you for their ineptitude. A short shaft 350 is the same length as the powerglide. The powerglide is a simple transmission and a competent shop should not have a problem fixing it.
